She has never been intubated for asthma and her last hospitalization was when she was in high school. Ms. Jones’ diabetes is not well-controlled. She does not take any medication for diabetes and does not check her blood sugar on a regular basis. She states that she stopped taking metformin because of gastrointestinal symptoms and she doesn’t understand what the glucose levels mean and how to manage them. She reports polydipsia, polyphagia, and polyuria for the last month with unintentional weight loss of 10 pounds.
