NURS 614 Curriculum Evaluation & Improvement Proposal
Curriculum Evaluation & Improvement Proposal
Purpose of the Proposal
The Curriculum Evaluation & Improvement Proposal is designed to help you systematically examine a course or program and recommend evidence‑based improvements. Your proposal should demonstrate alignment, rigor, accessibility, and responsiveness to accreditation standards.
1. Select the Course or Program
Choose a course, module, or curriculum segment to evaluate. Gather all relevant materials:
Syllabus
Course learning objectives (CLOs)
Module learning objectives (MLOs)
Curriculum maps
Assessments and rubrics
Learning activities
Student and faculty feedback (if available)
2. Identify the Evaluation Framework-Before selecting the evaluation framework, please obtain confirmation from the faculty member overseeing the course or program to ensure alignment with departmental expectations and accreditation requirements.
State which frameworks will guide your evaluation. Common options include:
• Keating’s Curriculum Development Framework
• Billings & Halstead’s evaluation principles
• AACN Essentials (Domains & Sub‑competencies)
• Institutional or program‑level outcomes
Explain briefly why these frameworks are appropriate.
3. Conduct the Curriculum Evaluation
Your evaluation should address the following components:
A. Alignment Analysis
Examine:

• Alignment of assessments with measurable objectives
B. Instructional Design Review

Strengths: Identify what is working well and why.
Areas for Improvement:
Identify gaps, misalignments, or opportunities for enhancement.
Use evidence from your evaluation to support each point.
5. Develop Improvement Recommendations
For each area of improvement, propose specific, actionable recommendations. These should be:
• Measurable
• Feasible
• Aligned with standards
• Grounded in evidence‑based practice
Examples include revising MLOs, redesigning assessments, improving accessibility, strengthening AACN mapping, or enhancing active learning.
7. Create an Implementation Plan
