Exploring Cloud Deployment Models
With the evolution of technology, almost everything we do with our gadgets is cloud based. Our phones for example we have google accounts which keep our photos, documents etc. Then there is Apple, to use any Apple product, you need an Apple ID which is connected to a cloud that syncs the data throughout all your devices. Dropbox is another example of the cloud-based tools that we use on a day-to-day basis to store our most precious data like pictures, videos, documents etc. As a user it has been very advantageous to be able to always have your data on the go and the security that comes with having your data on a cloud and not having it be dependent on a single device that couldbe lost at any time. When deciding on a cloud deployment model the user has a few things to consider:1. The size of their workload. This is the biggest factor to consider as the functionality of the cloud will be entirely dependent on this.2. The cost. Most users will look for the most cost-effective option when adopting a cloud deployment option and for most companies the most cost effective (even though it won’t always be the most efÏcient) model is the public cloud because you only pay for what you use.3. Some industries have specific data security requirements which might make some data deployment models more suitable for their models than others. Some challenges that may come up when setÝng up a new cloud model are:1. Compatibility with their auditing and governmental regulations 2. Cost effectiveness Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)Since the organization has full custody of the hardware this offers flexibility for organizations with aninconsistent scalability and can meet whatever needs the organization may have. Over the course of a year an organization’s workload oscillates and it is important that their cloud services can keep up with these changes. Another advantage to this model is the privacy it offers because the organization has custody of the hardware and the software there is a limit to who gets access to the data. Platform as a Service (PaaS)With this model you get to have the advantage of being able install and utilize multiple applications without the stress of dealing with the maintenance and installation. This means that less expertise is required on board and that may be cost effective in the long run. Software as a Service (SaaS)This model ensures that all the organization must worry about is the data itself and the provider handles the rest. This may offer less privacy so it would not be the best option for organizations with high privacy regulations.
