About this paper: you are writing a paper to map out the State of the Research and add your Interpretive Viewpoint on the state of that research in a field. So your goal is to take a theme from environmental studies and look in-depth at what research has been done, what kind of questions researchers are asking in that field, and what theyre finding. Then youll use your knowledge of and experience in environmental studies and other fields to show where the gaps are in the research, what yet needs to be determined, what voices need to be included, that is, where the field should go in the future. In short, what are researchers writing about in this field? What are their findings? And where is their work coming up short, in terms of methods, where the research is being done, who is doing the research or being included in it, what theories are informing it or frameworks that are holding it? As you start answering this latter question, you are adding your Interpretive Viewpoint. As you do your research, reach into the past: you need at least 2 papers that are at least 25 years old. Both of these should be peer-reviewed or grey literature. In addition to getting depth, you need breadth: you need at least 15 papers (including the above 2), 10 of which are peer-reviewed or grey literature to give you enough footing to make statements about this field. Sometimes these papers may not be specifically about your topic of greatest interest. Suggested structure: you will give general background in the introduction, have a clear thesis statement (which you will develop after you work through your set of literature and identify key messages, themes, findings, gaps, and/or future needs), present the key points, and suggest where the research needs to go next. Note that you are not trying to solve the environmental problem at hand. Instead, you are going to describe what researchers already know, and what future research needs to be done, and what the future goal.Writing suggestions below: (remember to focus on bird pollinators)Illustrate the causes and effects of pollinator population decline. There is a global crisis occurring as pollinator populations are dropping at a drastic rate, which severely affects agricultural communities and local wildlife.Examine current trends and the impacts of pollinator decline especially focusing on bird pollinators. Explain the threats these bird pollinators are facing like habitat loss, introduced species, climate change, etc., and how it impacts plants and other ecosystems globally. Track the underlying causes and the direct and indirect impacts of pollinator population decline, identifying any areas where research is lacking. Remember to collect information on pollinator abundance in urban environments without seeing an artificial number due to high levels of ornamental plantsWrite about how you are going to understand the effect bird pollination will have on a global scale given their marginal overall impact. Include your viewpoints: after all the synthesis from reading paper and studies, please answer what is missing in these research? what are the issues with it? Is it biased? how? Be careful with quotations. I will attach rubric and suggestion reading materials, you can find other materials as well but please follow the rubric. suggestion reading: https://science.sciencemag.org/content/331/6020/1019.full
