Understanding and use with efficacity the three elements of persuasion can increase chances of persuading. To persuade someone the three elements of persuasion are required such as ethos (credibility), pathos (emotion) and logos (logic).

I used the three elements of persuasion, in a recent situation where I had to convince my mother-in-law to see a doctor about a headache who keep her sometimes in bed. I explained to her, that could be a serious problem and need to see a doctor. At first it was not easy, but I finished by convincing her. I finish by understanding that she was scared to go see a doctor and explained she just needed a checkup and explained to her the benefits of checkup.

The one of the three elements that I found challenging is using the words effectively. Using story and examples to motivate and explain the benefits to see a doctor and it was not easy to incorporate words that elicit emotions such as feel and believe.

Now that I have studied the three elements of persuasion, I will make sure to listen and understanding the situation because that will help me find the words effectively. “About the importance of words and the power of persuasion, Churchill said: “If you have an important point to make, don’t try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time – a tremendous whack!”(Curtis, 2021, p. 312)
