Week 10 Assignment – International Crime Witness, Courts and Corrections
For this assignment, you will examine courts and correctional systems within the United States and one of the four other countries listed as Countries in Focus in both Chapters 7 and 8. Those countries are China, France, Germany, and Saudi Arabia.
Scenario
A man is driving under the influence of alcohol and driving erratically. Police are notified by a witness, and they soon locate this driver. The police officer observes his driving, and his actions are consistent with someone driving under the influence of alcohol.
The police officer tries to pull this driver over but, the suspected drunk driver is driving extremely fast and has run through red lights at two intersections. He runs a third red light, and he crashes into a pedestrian in the crosswalk. The pedestrian is transported to the hospital but, he succumbs to his injuries, and is pronounced dead.
The driver is arrested by the police. Initial field sobriety tests (FSTs) lead the police to believe the driver is under the influence of alcohol. The driver is charged with vehicular manslaughter and drunk driving.
