For your culminating project, you will be building a wellness plan for your (or a potential) police or other law enforcement department/facility.  You will write a formal letter to a supervisor or council member recommending your program.  Since it is a letter, please use the letter template provided and address it appropriately.  Your first and closing paragraphs can be written in first person, but the body of the letter should not be written in first person.  Also, remember to use appropriate APA formatting throughout the letter with references provided at the end.  A cover letter is not necessary since it is a letter format.  The suggested length is 3-5 pages (does not include Reference page).

The plan you suggest should incorporate the main dimensions covered in the course, and be sure to build your plan with the Whole Officer Model and Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs as the foundation.  The plan should be a good plan that works for YOUR department.

Be sure to review the grading rubric before you submit your paper to be sure you have covered all major requirements.  A list of questions are included below to help you begin brainstorming ideas for your plan.

Format of Letter:  Follow the guidelines provided below and put References page as an additional page after the letter.

• What is a good fitness      plan?  Does it address cardiovascular endurance, cardiovascular      strength, muscular endurance, and muscular strength?  Will this be      done on duty?
• Nutrition status?       Eat well?  Improvements needed?  What are better food      choices?  Is taking food to work a good choice?  What can the      department or facility offer its employees to help with this?       (Prepackaged foods?)
• What is a good health      plan?  Visiting the doctor regularly for check-ups?  The      dentist?  What actions are being taken to increase illness      resistance?  What at HR requirements for this now?
• Overweight?  Does      it affect job performance?  Ways to measure?
• Training regularly in      defensive tactics, with firearm, with other tools of the profession?       Would taking a Jiu-Jitsu class a few days, a week be a good plan of      action?  Can you require it by department rules?
• Making excuses?       How to stop making excuses and get to work on being better?
• Is it important to      improve knowledge and skills?
• What is a good knowledge      improvement plan?
• What classes should be      attended in the next year, two years and beyond?
• Areas of emotional      intelligence that need improvement?
• How can resilience be      improved?
• Commitment to getting      help if stress, trauma, PTSD, loss or grief happens?
• Financial status?       On the right tract?  How can it be better?  What’s a good plan?

Guidelines to follow for Writing a Business Letter: (be sure to put References page after letter)

• Use block format – left justified
• Single space
• Use Times New Roman 12 font
• Type your address first
• Space down one line
• Type the date
• Space down one line
• Type the recipient’s name and address
• Space down one line
• Enter a salutation, like Dear Ms. Jones:
• Type the body of the letter

Close the letter by:

• Space down one line after last sentence in the letter
• Type your closing, like Sincerely, or Regards,
• Space down four lines
• Type your name
