According to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention the mean height of adults in the United States of America ages 20 years and older is about 66.5 inches (69.3 inches for males and 63.8 inches for females). In our dataset, we have a taken a sample of 435 university students from a single university. Use your knowledge from this course to analyze whether the average height of males and females found throughout the United States is different from the average height obtained in our sample data. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. What are the hypotheses (hint: separate tests for males and females)? (4 marks)
2. Perform the most appropriate t-test to answer the question above. Attach a PDF copy of your jamovi output. Include the following information:
Descriptive Statistics. Indicate the mean, standard error, standard deviation, and number of observations, whether there is missing data, and whatever other analyses you feel are appropriate for a complete understanding of the data. Compile your findings in a table. (6 marks)
Figures. Include figures that illustrate the frequency and shape of the distribution. Is it normally distributed? What information do these figures tell us about the data? (5 marks)
Results. Summarize your findings in APA format as they would be reported in a peer-reviewed journal article. Include the following: normality test (indicate whether you should proceed with a parametric or non-parametric test), t-test result, and effect size (indicate whether your results have a small, medium, or large effect size). (5 marks)
3. Figure(s). Create a bar graph illustrating your results (can be constructed using any software program including Excel). (5 marks)
4. Write a description of your results using words and figures in APA format explaining what you can conclude from this study. Do you feel that this analysis was appropriate, if not, what analysis would you recommend? (4 marks)
