IT Project Management

This course is designed as an overview and introduction to project management principles and processes in the context of managing projects in an Information Technology environment. The basic processes of Project Management, however, are broadly used to manage projects in most, if not all industries. For your course project, you will build a simple project plan following the Five Process Groups (Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring and Controlling, and Closing) and the Ten Knowledge Areas of Project Management (Integration, Scope, Time, Cost, Quality, Human Resource, Communication, Risk, Procurement and Stakeholder, and Management) as listed in the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK).

Choose a project topic in which to develop a project plan.  This topic should address some current technology (IoT, data migration, cyber security upgrade, application development, SEO, etc.) and include a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), basic Gantt Chart (or Agile/Kanban board), in addition to addressing each of the ten knowledge areas listed above. The project should be complex enough to require addressing all of the Process Groups and Knowledge Areas listed above but simple enough.
