1) People who have been diagnosed with HIV infection whose viral load stays low even without medicine (elite HIV controllers) for a long period of time.
2) Case Report: (NOTE: while HIV is not a rare disease, elite controllers are a rare phenomenon in this population)
3) Using case reports to describe elite HIV controllers is a valuable research method because it allows for detailed documentation of unique individual cases where patients naturally control HIV without antiretroviral therapy. These case reports provide in-depth information about the clinical characteristics, immune responses, and genetic factors of elite controllers, which can help identify potential mechanisms of viral control and inform future research and treatment strategies (Lohse et al., 2007; Walker & Yu, 2013).
