Case Conceptualization

A case conceptualization is an opportunity for a counselor to take information about a student and paint a clinical picture that includes information such as treatment planning, theoretical framework, and intervention selection.

This should be written in normal, narrative language, not using clinical shorthand (e.g., “student stated..,” “student presented…” Instead, write, “The student is a 12 year old female who is dealing with many life changes…”).

Using the Case Conceptualization Presentation you developed in Unit 4 as a basis, provide the overall clinical treatment picture for this client, including the following:

1. Theoretical Foundation: Provide a discussion on the two theoretical approaches you selected with this client.

2. Treatment Plan: Provide a thorough treatment plan including identified problem areas, and goals.

3. Interventions: Describe the interventions that will be utilized both during counseling sessions and as client homework in order to work towards meeting goals. Explain why you feel these interventions are appropriate for your client.
