Choose your essay structure carefully. Avoid including details that do not serve to advance or complete your essay. I expect your essay to contain a strong introduction that includes your essay’s thesis, a coherent and focused body that effectively transitions from paragraph to paragraph, and a rich conclusion that provides closure for your essay.
Use all the resources you have available to complete this exam. Refer to your textbook for strategies and tips on student writing. I strongly recommend that you read chapter 10 from the textbook.
Start with an Outline
What does the outline of an exemplification essay consist of? It basically implies jotting down single or several sentences for each of the examples you’ll use in your exemplification essay. Schematically, the outline looks like this:
In paragraph 1, write one sentence outlining your topic, and one sentence describing your thesis statement.
In paragraph 2, give several sentences to describe the first example and prove it with facts (you must use in-text citation here).
In paragraph 3, describe the second example and provide short evidence (you must use in-text citation here).
In paragraph 4, describe the third example and provide short evidence (you must use in-text citation here).
In paragraph 5, state your thesis statement again and sum up your exemplification essay by providing the included examples. Also, express your final argument and prove the main point of your essay.
Once you have the outline, then you proceed to develop each paragraph with more sentences and details and using transitions from sentence to sentence and from paragraph to paragraph.
