1. Preparation Outline (30 points)
1. Preparation Outline (30 points)
In preparation for the Classroom Speech, you will write a preparation outline that follows the guidelines provided on Canvas and discussed in class. Post your outline on this discussion for your partners to review.
The outline will help you effectively develop your speech’s content, organization, and language style. It also will help you learn, rehearse, and deliver your speech.
Before working on the outline, read the instructions and submission requirements for your Classroom Speech.
The outline may not be submitted late.
Submission Requirements
Format your outline carefully, following the guidelines you learned in this course.
Label the major components of your speech (i.e. introduction, body, conclusion, transitions).
Use a consistent pattern of numbering or symbolization.
Divide the body of the speech into distinct and clearly labeled main points and supporting points. Do not write long and undivided blocks of text.
Divide and clearly label the components of the introduction and conclusion.
Write clearly and carefully. This includes using full sentences and careful editing.
Type the outline in a standard font style, such as Times New Roman or Calibri.
Cite all sources used to develop the speech. Source citations should be provided in two ways. First, in the text of the outline, you should write out how you will cite the source when you actually deliver the speech. (For example, “As historian Ibram X. Kendi writes in his book Stamped from the Beginning…”). Second, you should provide a bibliography formatted in APA style.
Highlight source citations in color or bold font.
Submit to the relevant Canvas assignment folder as a Word Document (doc or docx) or a PDF file.
Grading
Your work will be assessed using the grading rubric below this assignment. Please review the rubric so you are aware of the assessment criteria.
2. Summarize Your Outline and Speech Evaluations (10 points)
The next step is Part III of the Peer Evaluation. After writing your Peer Evaluation, you will summarize and post your evaluation of your partners’ outlines and speeches.
You will share this summary with your partners by posting it directly on this discussion as a reply to their outlines. Please use Providing Feedback

Links to an external site. is helpful in arranging these ideas.
For both speakers, provide three specific and sufficiently developed compliments and two meaningful suggestions for improvement.
Submission Requirements
One or two of your comments to each speaker (either a compliment or a suggestion) must focus on their outline (e.g. First Compliment—outline).
A maximum of one comment (either a compliment or a suggestion) may focus on delivery (i.e. First Suggestion-delivery). Most of your feedback should focus on the content of the speech.
Organize your summary like this:
Evaluation for [Insert Speaker’s Name]
Write and explain your first compliment.
Write and explain your second compliment.
Write and explain your third compliment.
Write and explain your first suggestion for improvement.
Write and explain your second suggestion for improvement.
Repeat this organizational structure for your second summary. Remember, one or two of your comments to each speaker must focus on their outline. No more than one comment for each speaker may focus on delivery.
Length: Provide sufficient feedback for each speaker. Each summary should include 150-200 words.
Post your two evaluative summaries by the deadline provided by your instructor.
Grading
Your work will be graded on the extent to which it provides a clear and sufficiently detailed summary of your evaluation for both speakers (5 points each X 2 = 10 points).
In addition to these criteria, the evaluation will be graded for its written clarity—including proper grammar, sentence structure, spelling, and formatting as well as word count limits – which is an expectation of this assignment. If lacking, points will be deducted.
