Reflections on the Peer Review Process
Reflections on the Peer Review Process GENERAL What did the writer do well in the essay?? Please be specific. In his essay, the writer did well in giving a summary of the essay Caged Bird by Maya Angelou. ? THESIS How does the writer indicate that it will be a comparison/contrast essay? Is there a clear thesis? The author did not give a thesis statement at all. He only gave the definition of what a thesis statement is. ? Do all major points relate back to the thesis statement? If so, how?(In other words, is the paper unified and are all points related?)? If not, suggest ways to correct. Some of the major points were given about each essay the author read, but he only told what each part of the paper represented. The paper was not unified to me. The author needs to write an essay and not just tell what each component of the essay does. ? ORGANIZATION/STRUCTURE Underline the use of transition words and phrases that show comparison and contrast.? Are additional transitions needed?? If so, where? Organization structure was good in what the author wrote and his transition was good because he had subheadings so that the reader would know he was starting on a new subject. ? What similarities are noted?? What differences?? Indicate where the writer uses parallelism to address similar points/topics for each of its two subjects. The author really did not note the similarities in his two subjects; in fact he only talked about one essay and did not give similarities or differences of this particular essay. He did not compare or contrast another subject to the essay he wrote about. ? ? ? ? Does the writer use a ?subject-by-subject,? or ?point-by-point? method?? Indicate if the proper ?order? is used. If proper order is used, explain why you believe it is the proper order. If proper ?order? is not used, suggest methods of improvement. Proper order is not used because the author does not compare and contrast two subjects. He is only talking about one subject. ? EDITING Suggest at least one item the writer might add to this essay. He can add a thesis statement and the subjects he is comparing and contrasting. ? Suggest at least one item the writer might remove from this essay. The can remove telling what a narrative essay model reflect. He can also remove all the definitions he has given. ? CONCLUSION Is the concluding paragraph effective?? If so, why? ?If it is not effective, what can be done? The concluding paragraph could be effective if the author was using the persuasive statement for more than one subject. He tells the reader that the essay Caged Bird is a superior narrative essay but does not compare it to another essay. ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Answer Preview I noted that there are a few areas that I need to work on. The most important one is coming up with a clear thesis statement. I have realized the thesis statement is an important part of any essay because it highlights the general purpose of the essay and what the reader should expect. A good thesis statement should be apt. it should be short, specific and to the point. The body of the essay should either confirm or deny the thesis statement. The body of the essay should also focus on dealing with the issues raised in the thesis statement and should not deviate. The other important thing to consider while writing an essay is to ensure you understand the topic on which you are writing. This has also been a challenge. APA 334 Words
