Part 1: The U.S. National Reparations Task Force has invited you to submit testimony on the development and implementation of a potential reparations program for Black Americans. Drawing on the material we’ve covered in class this semester, please respond to the task force’s request. Your local city council is collecting proposals for its inaugural Skyrise Planning Initiative and has
invited you to submit a proposal to address the harms done by long standing racial inequality in
the city (e.g., racial segregation, redevelopment, gentrification, environmental injustice, etc.).
The initiative is inspired by recent research on “Black placemaking” and the following June
Jordan quote: “What kind of schools and what kind of streets and what kind of parks and what
kind of privacy and what kind of beauty and what kind of music and what kind of options would
make love a reasonable, easy response?”
Your proposal should include the following:
● Define the concept of Black placemaking
● Describe the significance of June Jordan’s quote to your proposal
● Identify the harm(s)/inequality your proposal address
● Provide a brief description of the intervention/innovation
