You will ask your client for their opinion on how important recovery is to them and how confident they are in their ability to abstain from alcohol and other drug use. Be sure to discuss how your client rates both the Importance they place on recovery and their confidence in being able to maintain abstinence.
   1. A. Describe how you would use the information from the two rulers in a treatment plan for your mock client.
   2. B. Identify the problem, the goal, and the interventions you would use with your client based on their answers.
   3. C. The identified problem needs to be in the client’s words (i.e., “I want to stop getting arrested for drugs”; I want to stop drinking alcohol.”

Measurable would identify when a specific task will be accomplished, such as “enter treatment within seven days.” So the task is to enter treatment. Within seven days makes it measurable (did they enter treatment) and attainable because most treatment programs will have individuals enter treatment within seven days.
5. Attainable, for example, a client has either insurance or financial ability to pay for the treatment you recommend.
6. You must use the exact same problem (about their alcohol or drug use) for all three of the worksheets. (confidence ruler, importance ruler, and decisional balance sheet).

8. The Importance Ruler and the Confidence Ruler can also be used as interventions in your treatment plan.
