Work Process Flow Chart Designing
Watch the following video on creating a flowchart: Click Here – Creating a Flow ChartLinks to an external site.
Read the following scenario:
1. In the ICU, the physician writes a medication order in the chart.
2. Then the ward clerk sends a copy of the order to the pharmacy and notifies the RN assigned to the patient of the new medication order.
3. The RN looks the drug up in the medication administration record (MAR) and checks that the patient has no allergy to the drug and that the dosage is appropriate.
4. If the patient has no allergy and the dosage is correct, the RN should administer the drug.
5. If the patient is allergic or the dosage is incorrect, the RN should not administer the drug and instead should contact the physician for clarification.
6. If the nurse contacts the physician, then the physician will write a new medication order to replace the original.
Create a step-by-step flow chart that represents the scenario above. The flowchart should be a diagram that reflects the chain of events that start with a physician writing an order and ends with the patient either receiving or not receiving the drug ordered.
