Practice what you’ve learned from reading the chapter, choose a basic image, and depict it in 3 different ways: as a notation, a pictograph, and a silhouette. Each depiction will be displayed in four different modes as described below. You should have a minimum of 30 sketches. You will choose the best ones and refine them into comps, with a total of 3 different final depictions. The final depictions must be in black and white. You can do this digitally or by hand with a Sharpie. Review pages 111-112 in your textbook if you have questions about the differences in the depictions.
01. Choose one image, such as a tree, bird, house, or flower. You are not limited to these. They are just suggestions.
02. Depict the chosen image as a notation, pictograph, and silhouette.
03. Depict the same image in the following modes: linear, naturalistic, and expressionistic. (Research fine art examples of these modes.)
04. Create ten thumbnail sketches for each depiction.
05. Choose the best of each and refine it into comps.
Presentation: (Present all the depictions in black and white only.)
06. Create a PowerPoint or multi-page PDF showing each of the depictions, sketches, refinements, and final comps.
The purpose of this assignment is to really push yourself and think of different ways to depict the same object. You need to use the Classifications of Images, but how you get there is open to interpretation. You must have at least 36 sketches.

Materials:
Your choice. This project can be produced by hand using paper, drawn out in pen and ink, painted, or designed using computer software. If you use ink, markers, colored pencils, and so on, you MUST ensure your colors are OPAQUE and you can not see the coloring lines at all. You can use any size paper but nothing smaller than 8.5″ x 11″ Your work needs to look professional nice and neat at all times, no matter the material you are using.
Project Submission:
Submit your finished project here in PDF or PowerPoint format. The file should be named: lastnamefirstinitial_Classifications.pdf. REMEMBER you never write the file extension. You can take an image of your final project if completed by hand with any camera, however, your pictures must have a clean background, be professional looking, sharp and in focus, and have the entire project within view head-on. Do not submit blurry images of your project lying on a messy bed/floor from a side angle. Any project not submitted properly runs the risk of losing points or receiving a zero. You must wait until the file is completely submitted before closing the window.
You have exactly 2 attempts to submit this assignment. If done incorrectly the first time you may resubmit. After the second time, there are no do-overs. If your second submission is submitted after the due date you will receive a late penalty. Be sure to read and follow all instructions in order to not lose points.
