Communications Question
Up front warning: See the syllabus regarding this course’s AI policy. If your professor suspects its use, a process will begin to unfold related to academic dishonesty.
Instructions
Upon completion of the book, The Nature Principle, by Richard Louv , you are to write a 3-4-page book review. This page total does not include your cover page and References page. Still, this is not a lot of space, so you need to be succinct in your writing. That is part of the challenge and criteria for assessment.
You are required to incorporate and accurately cite at least two (2) additional academic, scholarly articles or books as part of your sources shown on References page. While you are allowed to use the other texts in our course (i.e., Corbett, Hendry, and any articles), note that these do not count as the additional sources.
Importantly, you are following APA style overall; however, your professor is giving you the general structure, with mandatory headings (shown below) that all students are to use. Your paper will start with the first heading, then proceed as outlined below. Do not change these headings as you are being assessed on whether you can follow instructions as well as accomplish what is being asked for each section.
Your research paper will be submitted twice. You will submit a hard copy (PRINT ONE-SIDED) and submit the paper digitally in Canvas as an MS Word doc/docx or pdf.
In sum, your book review and course reflection will be organized as follows:
Cover Page
Summary & Review
Briefly summarize the book’s content in your own words.
Provide a review of some of the major points that stuck out to you that were made in the book.
Critical Analysis
A critical analysis of the major points or at least 2-3 of the major ideas / concepts. If there are many ideas in the text, then you should identify 2-3 and comment on them specifically.
I would rather you argue and critically analyze 2-3 ideas in-depth rather than try to review too many points within the text, with a thin or shallow argument.
- Discussion & Integration
- Discuss how the information in the text integrates into what we already know about communication.
Share how the information fits, practically speaking, into our daily lives.
Contribution/Application & Course Reflection
Respond to how this text contributes to our understanding of environmental communication.
- Provide a succinct explanation as to how its content impacts the way(s) we interact in today’s 21st century society.
- You must offer a memorable, substantive conclusion that involves some aspect of reflecting on what has been learned throughout the course. What has struck you the most? How can you share whatever that might be in a succinct manner in your paper?
