Persuasive 6-8 minute speech
Persuasive Speech – Persuasion: 6-8 minutes speech, delivered with minimal notes. Students will choose a topic/issue in which they have a strong personal interest. In this speech, the student will advocate a position and/or ask the audience to take action. Parts of the speech will be submitted electronically throughout the class. These parts include a topic paragraph, annotated bibliography, outline, introduction, and audience analysis worksheet.
The topic is crucial for a persuasive speech. It should be something you deeply care about and believe in passionately. Once you have your topic, the next step is to research thoroughly. Your annotated bibliography will help you keep track of your sources and ensure you’re using credible information to support your arguments.
Next, I would like to point out that crafting a solid outline is essential. It will serve as the blueprint for your speech, guiding you through the introduction, body, and conclusion. Please remember to include a clear thesis statement that says your position or call to action.
When you write your introduction, you should aim to grab your audience’s attention right away. You could start with a compelling statistic, a thought-provoking question, or a powerful anecdote related to your topic. Your introduction should also be able to
establish your credibility and provide a preview of what you’ll be discussing.
During your audience analysis, consider who your audience is and what they already know or believe about your topic. Tailor your arguments and language to resonate with them and address any potential objections they might have.
In the body of your speech, present your arguments logically and provide evidence to support each point. Use persuasive techniques such as appeals to emotion, logic, and credibility to sway your audience. Be sure to acknowledge opposing viewpoints but refute them with counterarguments.
Finally, in your conclusion, reiterate your main points and reinforce your call to action. Leave your audience with a memorable closing statement that motivates them to take the action you’re advocating for.
Throughout your speech, remember to maintain eye contact, vary your tone and pace, and use gestures to enhance your delivery. Practice extensively to ensure you’re confident and polished when delivering your speech.
By following these guidelines and putting in the effort to research, plan, and practice, you’ll be well-prepared to deliver a compelling and persuasive speech that leaves a lasting impact on your audience.
