After reading Kendall chapter #2, you have read that Emile Durkheim applied the scientific method to the social phenomena of suicide. In his classic study of suicide, the conclusion was, people committed suicide because of excessive social integration or the lack of social integration, or excessive social regulation or the lack of social regulation, creating the four suicidal categories of egoistic, altruistic, anomic, and fatalistic. Which of the four categories is most typical of suicides (such as the recent suicides of Kate Spade & Anthony Bourdain) in contemporary US? Why or why not? Support your answer with information from chapter #2. Cite the information with the page number and textbook edition you are using, for example (pg.100, ed.10).

Assignment #1 Nacirema

After reading “Body Ritual Among the Nacirema”, by Horace Miner, which is located in Module #2, you will realize that the article is actually describing Americans. Nacirema spelled backwards is American. So, take each of the following Nacirema terms used in the article, and state the vernacular (usual) American term used for it in U.S. society: Notgnihsaw, household shrine, charm-box, medicine men, herbalists, holy-mouth-men, magic wand, diviner, vestal maidens, listeners, latipso, font, and Water Temple. Then, state the objective of the article. In addition, the objective of the article can be summed up in one word found in chapter #3. Finally, find the word in chapter #3, and state it. Submit a list of the Nacirema terms with the corresponding typical American term, and a paragraph for the objective of the article.  Post the statement on the Assignment site. Do not submit as a word doc., etc. Remember, if you use sources (print or Internet), you must reference the sources at the end of the paper using APA format (information about APA references at OWL, found on Student Resources).
