Nursing informatics is a healthcare field that is highly revolutionizing due to technological advancement. The nursing informatics profession is likely to transform the healthcare industry significantly in aspects such as advancement in medical research. This aspect will tremendously impact how different conditions will be diagnosed, treated, and even cured globally (Hübner et al., 2023). The continued advancement in technology will enhance how healthcare pandemics will be handled and the speed at which healthcare interventions will be provided due to the ease of collecting and manipulating healthcare data (Hu?bner et al., 2023). In addition, technological advancements will play an essential role in improving healthcare information management and providing support to healthcare providers in different care units.
The current and aspiring nursing informatics professions should be conversant with modern technologies as they will influence how healthcare information will be gathered, analyzed, and disseminated for different healthcare functions. In this case, they should be technologically savvy and conversant with the trends in healthcare informatics and technology to be updated in the ever-evolving industry (Hübner et al., 2023). This aspect is articulated by the fact that aspects such as artificial intelligence and machine learning are currently being embraced to improve the quality and delivery of healthcare. Such technologies are considered to reduce time-consuming tasks in healthcare and take over the provision of direct patient care in aspects such as diagnosis of conditions such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and neurological disorders.

A career in nursing informatics is in for a significant transformation in the next decade. Many of these changes are due to major technological advances such as AI, telehealth, telemedicine, telenursing, etc. These advances can assist with predicting patient outcomes based on patient data (signs, symptoms, history), and can assist with managing chronic illness more effectively. Many of our wearable technologies have advanced as well. The newest version of Apple watches has health information such as heart rate, SpO2 monitoring, sleep patterns, and more that is stored and recorded over time. A nurse informatics specialist will have to remain competent on the most updated versions of medical technology and prepare ways to improve patient care in an inpatient and outpatient setting. Many of these changes will require continual learning and advanced degrees for nursing best practices. According to the journal How the Nursing Profession Should Adapt for a Digital Future, “Nursing will need a critical mass of practitioners who understand how to use data science to inform the creation of nursing knowledge to support practice”(Booth et al., 2021). This journal explains the importance of educating nurses from undergraduate to graduate degrees on these advances, and every nurse should be capable of adapting to the evolution of nursing in a digital age. As artificial intelligence and other technologies continue to advance, the nursing profession has to advance as well with education. By developing these skills and familiarizing themselves with these technologies, healthcare professionals can effectively navigate the changing landscape of healthcare and make positive changes for patient-centered care.

In the next decade, the role of nursing informatics is going to evolve like crazy and grow to be so popular. With technology on the rise and most of healthcare turning to some sort of electronic care, informatics will have to keep up with all the changes. I feel like at this current moment in healthcare, informatics is starting to rise and we are seeing the transition between “old school” and now. In order for current and aspiring nursing informatics professionals to prepare to meet the changing demands of the healthcare industry, they are going to have to look into the future, think ahead, and plan. Nurses should use the evaluation process constantly to determine what worked versus what didn’t work, what to continue to do, and what should be changed. Emerging technologies are concerning to me because I do not believe that the training, assessment, and evaluation of the products are thorough enough to start putting into healthcare. At the current moment I feel that they are not helpful; however, with proper training and development of the technology, I think that they could be helpful and relieve stress from healthcare. Like I stated previously, the training is not in-depth enough for workers to use this technology and the overall knowledge of healthcare workers does not support the demands of this technology.
