Valuing the Political Process
The most significant health issue affecting many people living in Arizona is childhood obesity. It is worth noting that most people in the state do not have the necessary environments to support healthy diets and engage in physical activities. Approximately 45% of the infants within the state have been breastfed for at least six months (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2018). Additionally, 15% of the children aged between 2 and 4 years within the state were overweight, while 14% of the children within the same age bracket were obese. That data plays a significant role in presenting the dietary quality and obesity within Arizona.
The development of the Affordable Care Act primarily aimed to provide millions of uninsured Americans with the necessary health coverage, which expanded to Medicaid. However, it is worth noting that there are still states that need to extend the program and fail to provide innovative medical care delivery methods that can play a critical role in lowering the cost of healthcare (Pacheco & Maltby, 2019). The program prevented most insurance companies that previously tended to deny the general population the required health coverage. The program still covers the health benefits regardless of whether an individual has lost their job.
Generally, it is essential for insurance companies and stakeholders, including the states, to evaluate the pros and cons of the program to address the health issue affecting a more significant population in Arizona. That contributes to the importance of strengthening the safety net options for everyone living within the state regardless of economic status. However, preventing the insurance companies from denying some coverage can also serve as a risk for some companies closing down. A more significant portion of the population in the state is still uninsured because of its high costs. Therefore, it is essential to develop a balance between the overall population and the insurance companies.

Peer 2: An ongoing healthcare concern in Florida is the scarcity of healthcare personnel, namely nurses. The scarcity has been worsened by several causes, such as a growing elderly population, rising demand for healthcare services, and inadequate funding for nursing education programs. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) predicts that the United States will face a deficit of registered nurses (RNs) in the future. In November, the Florida Hospital Association published a poll conducted in 2023. which revealed that nurse turnover and vacancy rates in the state’s hospitals decreased by 38%. According to recent statistics from the Florida Center for Nursing, there is a projected decrease in the shortage of nurses. The gap between the number of nurses available and the number needed is expected to dramatically close by 2030 (“Florida’s nursing shortage eases,” 2024).
“The era of universally having highly experienced and proficient nurses in all of your units is no longer present,” she said. “Due to a decrease in personnel, we must employ innovative thinking.” Vazquez, C. (2022). This could be an opportunity for new graduates to have more job opportunities. My stance on this matter is that it is essential to allocate resources toward nursing education and workforce development in order to effectively tackle the lack of nurses in our state.
By allocating financial resources and offering assistance to nursing institutions, we can augment the quantity of proficient nurses into the labor force and guarantee the fulfillment of healthcare demands. Moreover, providing incentives such as debt forgiveness initiatives or tuition reimbursement may effectively entice students to pursue a career in nursing and motivate them to remain in the industry.
Upon introspection, I recognize that due to my inclination towards accessible and top-notch healthcare, I may possess a predisposition towards supporting measures that emphasis augmenting the quantity of healthcare experts. Nevertheless, it is crucial to acknowledge that tackling the nursing shortage is advantageous not just for patients but also for nurses themselves, as it may result in enhanced working conditions, decreased burden, and heightened job satisfaction.
