Article Assignment
Purpose of the Assignment:
You have been reading about different types of philosophies and theories from the textbook. The purpose of this assignment is to investigate philosophies and theories within the context of the content that you teach from peered reviewed journals. (There is a PowerPoint Presentation from the LC Library, link below, that can help you find these peered reviewed journals. You can also use Google Scholar https://scholar.google.comLinks to an external site. search engine. NOT Google.) After your investigation, you will discuss your opinion of the findings from the article in relation to your teaching experiences. I have also included the assignment directions and format below:
Article must discuss the philosophy of teaching in the context middle school physical education.
Must be double-spaced, 2 to 3 pages of context with 12 point font.
Must include a title page with your name and the title of the article on it.
Must include the bibliography entry on last page. Use APA format. (I have attached a sample title page and bibliography. Link below)
Use correct APA format in citations. https://apastyle.apa.orgLinks to an external site.
It will be written in a formal format, however, you can use “I” in your thoughts about the article.
Format of Paper: Use these subheadings in your paper. (Points will be deducted if you do not follow this format.) You must include these topics, but if your article discusses other areas, (example, function of the school or educational practices they condemn) feel free to share those also. These subheading should be in bold and centered in the middle of the page.

First read the whole assignment directions carefully. Then look at the example. I cannot say this enough!!! Since we have been reading in the text about so many different kinds of teaching theories and philosophies, I wanted the article reading to be about teaching theories and philosophies in your content area of teaching. This will require you to think about what you have learned and apply it to different teaching methods in your field. The article probably won’t be as straight forward as the textbook about identifying their philosophical identity. You will have to infer from the methodology given in the article and what you have learned from the textbook readings to get the information required for the assignment. I’m going to challenge you to stretch your thinking and apply what you have learned. If you can’t find articles that are directly talking about theories and philosophies in your physical education, you can use ones that discuss a teaching strategy or method. Make sure the articles contain enough information to answer all of the parts of the assignment.
Here are excerpts from a book, not an article, but you will get the idea of what I am looking for in this assignment.
This is from a 5th grade Social Studies class in the book A Kid’s Guide to Social Action: How to Solve Social Problems You Choose and Turn Creative Thinking into Positive Action. (You should be able to already tell from the title the philosophical leaning of this book.)

When you read this, does it remind you of any of the philosophies and theories we have been learning about? Think about the questions on the Teaching Philosophy Inventory you took. What kind of teacher would this be? Can you tell the nature of the learner in this scenario? Could you describe the role of the teacher? Could you describe what the curriculum and methodology? After you answer these questions, then you would give your thoughts on the ideas presented.
