Be sure the topic is relevant to the field of social work practice (micro or macro). Imagine you have been asked by a local social service non-profit to deliver a professional talk on this subject within the context that social workers recognize personal values and the distinction between personal and professional values. They also understand how their personal experiences and affective reactions influence their professional judgment and behavior. Keep in mind that you should also include content related to the understanding of strategies designed to eliminate oppressive structural barriers to ensure that social goods, rights, and responsibilities are distributed equitably and that civil, political, environmental, economic, social, and cultural human rights are protected. Explain how this issue ties into oppression and/or marginalization including the importance for social workers to understand theories of human behavior and the social environment, and critically evaluate and apply this knowledge to effectively intervene with clients and constituencies.
Recommend at least two research-informed micro or macro practice interventions to address the issue keeping in mind that social workers must critically choose and implement interventions to achieve practice goals and enhance capacities of clients and constituencies.
Describe how you might negotiate, mediate, and advocate with and on behalf of diverse clients and constituencies to connect them to local resources that can aid in reducing oppressive barriers to accessing resources/assistance.
