1) Baseball: Clearly Rose is unhappy with Troy’s reliance on the metaphor of baseball in her response quoted above. What do YOU think about Troy’s use of metaphor of baseball? To what extent does this metaphor help explain his situation, and to what extent is this metaphor not ultimately useful? Explain your own interpretation, and analyze fully.
2) Other Metaphors?: While Rose is critical of Troy’s use of the baseball metaphor, it actually turns out that she herself uses at least one key metaphor to help explain how she sees her relationship with Troy. (Find it!) Elsewhere as well, other metaphors are used by Troy, Rose, or others. Choose ONE metaphor—other than baseball—and analyze how that metaphor operates within the play.
