Student 1: The difference between a group and a team is that a group is consider as a small group communication, “this consists of communication among a small group of people who share a common purpose, who feel a sense of belonging to the group and who exert influence on each other.” (Beebe & Mottet, 2013, p.4). A team is defined as a group pf people who share a common goal. This can include mutual and individual accountability and have collective success or failure. Teams are often more structured on achieving the goal. It is normally difficult in a group where all people participate, so when coming up with a discission, only a few people will create a solution.

A list of groups that I am a member of is the Church Community Group, and Community Food Bank Group. The lists of teams I’m a member of is the Marketing Team Committe at my job and the cheerleading team at my high school I attended. The rules, goals and procedures I use within my lists of teams is that I make sure we manage the conflict and disagreement in an open and healthy way. As the statement that “Successful teams are clear about who leads meetings, who makes assignments, who follows through on assignments and who can be expected to pay attention to team processes.” (Stewart, 2024). Using the rules, goals and procedures within the groups I am a member of is making sure that everyone participates, and no one dominates, meaning everyone would have a say so even though everyone may not agree but it’s good to understand everyone points with being feeling being left out.

Once example of one of my groups that evolved from a group to a team is my Church Community Group. At first the group was set around just one person deciding on the decisions made to coming together as a team with being more structures. Everyone had a input on their own opinions, they strategize a solution on how to handle thing and now things around the church are getting done at a timely manner with having the understanding from every member in the group. Having that teamwork and understanding each other is making the rules set in place go smoother.

Student 2: In the workplace people frequently work in teams or groups. The are significant differences.

A group is a gathering of people with different priorities who have a common interest, while working towards the same goal.

Team is a group with a common aim, Members are both individually and collectively responsible for the team successes or failures.

I’m a member of two groups.

I’m a member of a group call The National Beautician League of America, we meet once a month, we have a President, Vice presidnt, Secretary, Treasurer , Of course the members, our goal is stay current in the fast past industry, as far as the new by-laws, ,stay a breast on where the economy is going as it relates to retirement. We also host a convention in each other city across the nation, having workshops, Balls Extravaganza, Fashion shows, we release the latest trend. until next time we meet.

I’m also in the Men Choir at my church, we meet once a month to practice what songs we’re going sing. We have prayer and discuss certain services we’re giving back to the community, its part of our outreach ministry. We also have to come up with an attire to wear on the Sunday we sing.
