To participate in this discussion board, you will need to complete some of the other week 5 activities, as the question prompts are inspired by the readings (both the textbook chapters and the module pages) and activities. I understand that you may not be able to complete all activities before participating in the discussion boards. You will get more out of the discussion boards if you check them at the end of the week and/or post your replies after you have completed the rest of the module.
REQUIREMENTS:
For this discussion board, you must complete the following:
- Below are 5 question prompts. Pick two question prompts and provide a thorough response for each. Thorough responses should be 4-6 sentences. Post your responses on the discussion board. Make sure you include which question you are answering! It may not be obvious for each discussion board.
- You will also have to respond to two of your peers’ posts. Your responses are intended to add to the conversation and should be about 3-5 sentences. Maybe you agree/disagree with someone’s responses. Explain why that is. Maybe your fellow classmate made a point that you hadn’t thought of, and you can explain what you learned from their post. Maybe you have a thought to add to their post. Did their post prompt a question? Ask it! There are many other response opportunities!
You do not have to address both question prompts in your statement. Do not copy or paraphrase someone else’s comment. You will lose points for doing so.
- Finally, respond to someone that posted on your thread (your original post). Thank them for their comment AND add something else. You can use strategies from #2 to continue the conversation.
If the due date is nearing and no one has responded to your thread, you may respond to a third person as outlined in #2. However, I highly recommend students look for threads that have not been commented on yet to reduce the occurrence of no one responding to a thread.
QUESTION PROMPTS:
Question prompts (only pick 2 to respond to)
- Create a hypothetical scenario where either human or environmental health is impacted. Use information from this week’s readings (health impacts, sources, etc.) to hint at which pollutant is responsible and see if your peers can guess which pollutant is involved.
- In your opinion, which pollution reduction policy method (i.e., command and control, taxation, or cap-and-trade) would be the most effective in reducing carbon dioxide releases? Justify your choice.
- Find a recent news article about pollution. Provide the title, link, and a brief summary.
- Smart urban planning involves diversifying energy sources to ensure the city always has power. If you were to choose two renewable electricity alternatives to fund in a city, which two would you choose? Justify your choices. (Note: Your choices can be generic, but sometimes, considering the landscape of your chosen city will influence which options you choose.)
- Electric vehicles (both fully electric and hybrid models) are increasing in popularity. What are some of the concerns or barriers that society must keep in mind as we shift to electric vehicles?
