Team Project Guidelines (Module 7 is a 3-week module)
In Module 7 you will be taking your team cause a step further by designing a hypothetical community engagement project around the topic/cause you selected for Module 6’s activity. As you are designing your project, you should be thinking about it as something you as a team of 4-7 individuals could plan and carry out within a 2-month time
frame. The whole idea with this assignment is for your team to engage in Collaboration, Common Purpose, and Controversy with Civility. I realize collaborative work in an online environment may be challenging, but I want you to give it your best shot. At least the pandemic has given us a few more tools to use as well as some experience in virtual
spaces. I’m not looking for a perfect project, but I am looking for you to demonstrate collaboration and for all members of your team to participate in the process and practice the 3 C’s that are the group values. Please be patient as you develop your projects, and please initiate and respond to communication with your group members. Feeling a little
anxious is to be expected and always a natural part of collaborative work, but when you’re communicating, the process is smoother and more rewarding.
What needs to be completed in Module 7?
q Team Progress Report 1 Due 3/31 by 11:59pm
Each person on the team offers a one-paragraph summary answering the following questions:
What do you see as the team’s accomplishments thus far? Be specific about what’s been completed.
What still needs to be accomplished to complete the project outline.
What will be each member’s tasks in ensuring the project is completed? Be specific with the names
and tasks.
q Team Progress Report 2 Due 4/7 by 11:59pm
Each person on the team offers a one-paragraph summary answering the following questions:
What do you see as the team’s accomplishments thus far? Be specific about what’s been completed.
What still needs to be accomplished in order to complete the project outline.
What will be each member’s tasks in ensuring the project is completed? Be specific with the
names and tasks.
Team Project Outline Due 4/14 by 11:59pm (see guidelines on pages 2-3)
q Team Project Reflection and Analysis due 4/14 by 11:59pm (20 pts)
Each team member should post a 2-3 paragraph analysis and reflection on the process you went through in
determining your team’s cause. This post will be seen only by your group members. In particular, you should:
oDescribe your collaboration process, how the project came together, how you communicated, etc.
(3 pts)
oDescribe what went well and what could have gone better (2 pts)
oShare what/how you contributed to the process and your assessment regarding the quality and
extent of your contribution. (2 pts)
oIdentify and describe specific instances where you noticed Group Values Cs in action. Use your textbook as a reference, making sure to cite any pages on which you based your analysis. You should make at least three references to your textbook. (9 points). Reflection will be graded on thoroughness, depth, and connections/references to the SCM.
Group 3 Outline:
Topic: Women’s Rights
What is the problem you are addressing with your project? Offer some evidence from 3 or 4 credible sources to support your assertion that the problem is something that needs addressing. Why did your team choose this?
The problem we’re addressing with our project is the persistent gender inequality and violations of women’s rights globally. Despite progress in many areas, women continue to face discrimination, violence, unequal opportunities, and lack of representation in various spheres of life.
Evidence from Credible Sources:
i.According to the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2020, it will take an estimated 99.5 years to close the gender gap worldwide at the current rate of progress. [Source: World Economic Forum]
ii.The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) reports that gender-based violence affects one in three women worldwide, making it one of the most pervasive human rights violations globally. [Source: UNDP]
iii.Amnesty International highlights that in many countries, discriminatory laws and practices restrict women’s rights to education, employment, and healthcare, perpetuating gender inequality. [Source: Amnesty International]
iv.The American Civil Liberties Union and the Feminist Majority Foundation reports that over 1,000 schools in the United States alone have single-sex educational programs, many of which rely on outdated or incorrect gender stereotypes. This issue continues to be documented to the present day in our own country. [Source: ACLU, Feminist Majority Foundation]
What is the social change would you hope to bring about as a result of this project? What is your purpose?
The social change we hope to bring about is the dismantling of systemic barriers to gender equality and the empowerment of women worldwide. Our purpose is to foster a society where women have equal rights, opportunities, and representation in all aspects of life.
Who is the target population you wish to reach with your project? Rationale for selection?
We aim to reach women and girls of all ages, backgrounds, and socio-economic statuses globally. Our rationale for this selection is rooted in the belief that achieving gender equality requires inclusive efforts that address the diverse needs and experiences of women worldwide.
Who is the target population that will benefit from your project? Rationale for selection? (Remember, to consider the concept of solidarity.).
While our primary target population is women and girls, our project will benefit society as a collective by promoting gender equality and challenging harmful norms and practices. Additionally, men and boys will benefit from a more equitable society where gender stereotypes and discrimination are addressed.
Describe your project? What would it look like? Please note that your project should be original in design and something that involves a plan. Thus, volunteering type projects such as getting a group of friends together to participate in Trail Clean-up is not really a “project.”
EmpowerHER is a multifaceted project that combines advocacy, education, and community engagement to advance women’s rights. It includes:
i.Awareness Campaigns: Utilizing social media, events, and traditional media to raise awareness about gender inequality and women’s rights issues.
ii.Educational Workshops: Organizing workshops on topics such as women’s health, leadership, and legal rights to empower women and provide them with necessary skills and knowledge.
iii.Advocacy Initiatives: Collaborating with policymakers and community leaders to advocate for policies and practices that promote gender equality and protect women’s rights.
Build a hypothetical coalition with three actual organizations that would be logical partners. Name the organizations in your coalition and why you selected them.
UN Women: They have extensive experience and resources dedicated to advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment globally.
Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF): As a grassroots organization, they focus on promoting peace and justice through women’s empowerment and activism.
Planned Parenthood: With a focus on reproductive health and rights, they play a crucial role in advocating for women’s autonomy and bodily integrity.
How will you get people to participate? Ideas for marketing? You should have dynamic title for your project. Let’s see your creativity!
To encourage participation, we will employ various marketing strategies such as social media campaigns, community outreach events, and partnerships with local organizations. The project’s dynamic title, EmpowerHER, emphasizes the empowerment of women and inspires individuals to join the movement for gender equality.
What is your timeline? You should provide a list of tasks as well as target completion dates for a 2-month time period along with names of team member(s) will be responsible (hypothetically) for each task.
The research phase will be 3 weeks long and completely by all individuals.
i.Find a topic/issue to address & preparation of research design – 1 week
ii.Collect and analysis data – 1 week
iii.Drawing conclusions by writing a research outline including credible sources – 1 week
Project Management will be split between three individuals who will map out: activities, project budget, and resource planning – 2 weeks
Marketing will be split between two individuals who will use resources like photography for social media, advertising campaign ideas, and collaboration/event. – 3 weeks
How will you know your project was successful? (Be measurable here. Will you have raised $1000? Will you have reached 200 people? Will 100 people have participated? Will you have received 1000 hits to your website?)
Success will be measured by:
i.Increased awareness through social media engagement metrics.
ii.Number of participants attending educational workshops.
iii.Policy changes or advancements in women’s rights advocacy efforts.
iv.Surveys or feedback indicating positive impact on participants’ understanding and empowerment.
According to the authors of your text, community engagement aimed at social change has the following attributes that distinguish it from other types of community engagement:
Aimed at creating change
Addresses the root causes of social problems
Is collaborative
Is not simple

This is an academic article that shows that women have always been placed at a disadvantage in society, while men held more power in positions. Traditionally , women took on the task of doing household chores and bearing children, while men acted as the providers. Men went out ,found jobs, and brought home the income. These roles were often enforced because of cultural or religious beliefs. In the Bible, St. Paul ordered all wives to be obedient to their husbands. For many years, education was not important. Marriage was seen as the primary goal for women. During the Enlightenment and Industrial Revolution, women started to demand the right to vote and equality in practice. In the 1960s, women came together to form organizations and stand up for the equal rights of women. The women’s movement has impacted women a lot today. Women have fought against discrimination based on age and race of women, as well as laws against abortion and reproductive rights [KL2]
This is an academic article that highlights laws in various states across the U.S. regarding Abortion. The article proceeds to focus on abortion in the cases of rape and incest especially for women under the age of 18. The laws surround abortion rights came into play during Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, No. 19-1392, 597 U.S. 215 (2022)., Dobbs Decision is a landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in which the court held that the Constitution of the United States does not confer a right to abortion. As state trigger laws prohibiting abortion take effect across the nation, a hostile and uneven landscape develops that places significant barriers in the way of young people who are vulnerable and want to end their pregnancies. These obstacles also affect the freedom of speech, privacy, and basic human rights. [SM3]
This is an academic report cited by the ACLU that discusses reports of gender segregation in US k-12 education. This included gender segregated schools as well as gender-specific courses. The research estimated over 1000 schools and programs in the US that practice this, 794 being confirmed reports. This report also highlights the potential legal, educational, and economic concerns when it comes to this issue. Not only have studies shown that gender-segregated education limits the students’ ability to both learn properly or interact with students of the opposite sex on educational topics, it is also a potential violation of Title IX federal law that is intended to prevent this exact kind of gender inequality in education. The study also provides recommended courses of action to address these issues, particularly when it comes to funding additional research on the effects of gender segregation. Additionally, due to its inherent illegality, schools must address this issue not only for their students well-being, but also to protect the school’s personal interests. (This is just to give you something to go off of)
