Students will be assigned two case scenarios and responsible for identifying the legal and ethical dilemmas and possible solutions. The written analyses must be a Word document, contain at least four to five pages (does not include title or reference page), in APA style with the following headings:
Case descriptions
Summary of the ethical dilemma(s)

Describe potential violations
- Identify/describe ethical codes
- Use both the AAMFT and ACA codes (provide the name of each section and code number(s)

- Explain the step-by-step process

- Liselle is an MFT who provided online therapy to a family in another city. They opted to use a cordless telephone for audio because the sound quality was not always good when they used their computer for audio. The family made significant progress through their first five sessions. However, the family became concerned about privacy issues when their next-door neighbor reported that she heard parts of the therapeutic conversation on the baby monitor that she has to monitor her young child’s sleep. The family immediately emailed Liselle, demanding an explanation as to why the session could be heard on the baby monitor. Liselle responded, “Everyone knows that if you use a cordless telephone, it can be picked up on baby monitors, police scanners, and other devices. Case Description # 6
- Mark has started working as a counselor for a new private practice. On Mark’s second day working for the practice, he is presented with a 32-year-old client accompanied by his father. The client’s presenting concerns are socially related. He explains that he has no friends and finds it difficult to relate to others his age. He goes on to share being confused by people in general. After discussing his previous social experiences, the client identifies creating a circle of friends as his main goal and second goal of finding a romantic partner. The client also shares that he feels more suited romantically to someone around 16-17 years old. He explains finding people his age is more attractive and thinks they would have more in common than someone his age.
