- My experience with telemedicine has been quite positive overall. I have seen how much patients and the healthcare system have gained from it in the course of my career. One of the key benefits of telemedicine is the provision of accessible healthcare services (Balestra, 2018). Patients are no longer required to travel for hours to have an appointment with a doctor or to deal with long queues. Contrary to booking an appointment weeks ahead, I have been able to connect with them at their place of comfort. This has, in fact, given me a great deal of time and has also been of great use to patients in that they can now do away with the stress that comes with traveling to appointments, especially on those hectic weekdays. Telemedicine has also improved the productivity of healthcare delivery in many ways. Virtual consultations have allowed me to assess the condition of patients swiftly and deliver the best of my expertise to come up with the most appropriate care plan (Snyder & Kerns, 2021). This fast-tracked process, in addition to saving time, also allows for collaboration between interdisciplinary teams.
Besides, telemedicine has also strengthened the links between patients and healthcare providers. Utilization of technology gives patients the opportunity to manage their healthcare (CMS.gov, 2020). They can view their nursing or doctor’s records online, reach their healthcare providers with much fewer hassles, and participate in virtual classes in which they can learn more about their conditions and treatment options. From a personal perspective, telemedicine has made me flexible and open-minded about new technologies. Nevertheless, it has made me comfortable with the use of technology as it has become an important tool in my nursing practice. I have experienced that virtual communications are just as influential and efficient as face-to-face encounters, allowing me to build trust and rapport with my patients.
