Secondary Research Assignment – #2 (20%) This assignment relates to the following Course Learning Requirements: CLR 3: Apply secondary research techniques to effectively perform in a collaborative team environment. CLR 4: Administers project management techniques to planning a project. Objective of this Assignment: This assignment will have you perform secondary research on a current topic. Proper intext citations and references must be utilized using APA format. This assignment needs to be planned out using the different steps in the research strategy outlined in the course. This assignment will be used in later assignments, so it is imperative that you complete this assignment. Pre-Assignment Instructions: 1. To prepare for this assignment, go back and review module 3 Assignment Tasks: 1. Each student will research a topic that has been in the news in Canada within the last three years. The topic has to have some level of controversy where there are opinions on both or on multiple sides of an argument. Some sample topics will be outlined below to give you some ideas to start, but students may pick their topic as long as they can find enough sources to present the arguments for differing opinions. Be sure to use examples where they exist on each side. Be sure not to include your opinions in this paper – it is strictly a research paper. Sample Topics: ● Minimum Wage Increases 2. The topic must be thoroughly researched, and there must be a minimum of 8 sources. Keep in mind that the paper is about presenting only the differing opinions of those through research and not your own opinion. The papers will be used later in a collaboration exercise where you will present a group viewpoint. If you find a topic does not have a minimum of 8 sources, then you will need to choose a topic that does. 3. The paper must be written in Word, double-spaced in a 12 point font. The paper must include both in-text citations and a reference list citation page at the end of the paper. All citations must be there. There also must be a title page on the front of the paper that includes the paper’s title, student name, and date. The paper must be a minimum of 5 pages long with pages numbered. (not including the title page or reference page). Assignment #2 Grading Rubric (20%) 15 points Criteria Excellent 80-100% Assignment Quality Clearly defines the topic that is being debated with the differing views. The paper includes a minimum of at least 2 clear points of view of pro/con but could be alternative views as well.
