• What makes a film, video, or magazine popular? 
• What factors influence culture industries to portray cultural groups as they do? 
• How does the portrayal of different cultural groups by the media influence intercultural interactions with those groups? 
• What stereotypes are perpetuated by U.S. popular culture and exported to other countries? 
• How do social roles affect our consumption of popular culture? 
• Why do people differ in their perceptions of what is popular? 
• How do you respond to popular culture? 
• What strategies do you use to resist some forms of popular culture?

Now based on the TV shows you watch, answer the following questions.

• Why do you watch it?? (Do you “love to love” it, or do you “love to hate” it?? Explain.)? What attracts you to this show?? Explain whether one or more of your social roles affects your choice of watching this show. 
• What social function do you believe?this?show?fills?? Does it address a specific social issue? 
• Does it appeal to various audiences with different interests? 
• How powerful of a role do you believe this show plays in affecting the way those who watch it think about and understand the particular cultural group(s) portrayed?? (Remember to consider “cultural group” in a broad sense.) 
• Do you believe that there is stereotyping of characters involved in this show, this form of popular culture? 
• How can you describe this show as a lens for understanding a specific cultural group?
