Should managers pursue anextremely costly improvement that nets only a very small improvement? Why or whyClass, PMBOK documents that theproject sponsor has the duty to develop and update the project businesscase document. A Project manager is not isolated and must interact withthe project sponsor to understand the project. Also, there is a Projectbenefit management plan created by the PM aligned with the business case(PMBOK). Definitely that the PM’s homework starts by understandingthe organization Vision/Mission supporting Continual Improvement if sodecided, but could be better gathered by discussing it with the projectsponsor and business stakeholders to get a solid grasp. According to PMBOK Projects are initiated to reachbusiness opportunities aligned with their strategic (Marketing,Environmental, Customer’s requests, technological advance…) goals. Have you seen a similar scenario in your company?POST1:Thereare several benefits of continual improvement which are the basis forrationale in using the strategy. Continuous improvement requires a lotof work so it’s important to understand the benefits to provoke actionand inspire everyone participating to put in the work that’s necessaryto make it successful. Some of these benefits include more engagedemployees, lower turnover, more competitive products and services, better customer service, and having a proactive learning culture(Skhmot, 2017).Management has a huge part in continuous improvement and its success.Management can start the strategy but simply choosing a workplaceprocess and working on ways to improve it. Then it’s important to find away to measure that improvement and continually check up to see theprogress. When one process has been improved, there are always more towork on until it becomes second nature to just always be improvingsomething (Novok, 2020).Regarding whether or not managers should pursue a costly improvementthat only nets a small improvement should be determined on a case bycase basis. If the improvement has a high possibility of benefiting thecompany later on or preventing a future risk, it may be worth theinvestment. On the other hand, if the costly improvement will only netthe company a very slight improvement with no additional or futurebenefits, it may not be worth the time and resources and the managermany want to consider a different improvement.References:Novkov, A. Retrievedfrom https://theleanway.net/5-Benefits-of-Continuous-Im…POST2:Continualimprovement is necessary for competing in the global marketplace.According to Goetsch & Davis (2014), competing in the globalmarketplace is like competing in the Olympics. Last year’s records arealmost always assured to be broken. Continuous improvement in key areaslike new technologies, new product development, quality, customersatisfaction, and process performance need to always be a focus in orderto be one of the top if not THE top in the game.Managements role in continual improvement, according to Goetsch &Davis (2014), is to play the leadership role and perform tasks such asestablishing a quality council for the organization and serving as amember. Leadership from management would mean working with the qualitycouncil to establish quality improvement goals with a timetable andtargets dates, provide needed moral and physical support, scheduleperiodic process reviews while giving recognition where it’s due, andbuild quality improvement into a reward system, like bonuses and payincreases.Regarding if management should pursue an extremely costly improvementthat nets only a small improvement, I think it depends on the impact ofthe improvement. Is the improvement going to positively impact thebusiness long-term? Does it bring a positive ROI and lead to additionalopportunities for the business? I think what a manager might want to dowith the quality council is use the scientific approach to determine theproblem at hand that needs improvement. If through that process, acostly approach is discovered as the improvement solution, and thebusiness reaps great rewards long-term, then yes, they should pursue. Atleast this way, via the scientific approach, the planning was done in acareful and methodical way that benefits the business.Reference:Goetsch, D. L., & Davis, S. (2014).
