Social Work Question
Respond to at least two colleagues who selected different resources to use for change:
Recommend one credible resource to complement your colleagues’ and explain how it aligns.
Caitlyn A Bullert (She/Her)MondayJan 29 at 4:23pmThe sources I use depend on the changes I wish to make. If I wanted to make changes to substance use disorder or mental health then my top resource would probably have to be the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) or the National Institutes of Health (NIH). For other programs, I would use the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). These are all well-known organizations and have become reliable sources of information.By looking through their database of topics I should be able to find any research I would need for changes that I would plan on making. For example, if the change I want to make is behavioral health services among the homeless population I could find a book through SAMHSA. It can be downloaded for free through their store, (https://store.samhsa.gov/product/expanding-access-and-use-behavioral-health-services-people-experiencing-homelessness/pep22Links to an external site.). This resource can be downloaded by anyone so that informed decisions can be made. The NIH has access to the National Library of Medicine (https://www.nlm.nih.gov/Links to an external site.). The same would be true for NASW. There is access to recent research articles through their website (https://www.socialworkers.org/News/Research-Data/Social-Work-Policy-ResearchLinks to an external site.) that could be shared with those participating in the change.
Describe two credible resources to use to advocate for change in an acceptable way.
- Two credible resources to use to advocate for change in an acceptable way are:1. National Association of Social Workers (NASW): The NASW provides valuable resources, research, and guidelines for social workers advocating for change. Their website offers policy, statements, toolkits, and publications that can help you stay informed and effectively communicate your advocacy efforts. “Preparing a list of participants in each system and assessing the political and economic strengths and liabilities of each participant can assist the change agent and action system in making the best use of each participant’s skills.”(Netting et al., 2017).2. PubMed: Utilize scholarly articles and research studies available on PubMed to support evidence-based advocacy. Accessible through the National Library of Medicine, PubMed offers a wealth of information on social issues, interventions, and outcomes that strengthen your arguments for change. ” Regardless of who is designated as the public spokesperson, careful consideration should be given to whether this person is perceived positively, negatively, or as a neutral party, and by whom.”(Netting et al., 2017).
Explain how these resources might assist you in your planned change efforts.
If we utilize these resources, social workers can enhance their knowledge base, draw on evidence-based practices, and ensure their planned change efforts are well-informed, ethically sound, and effectively address the needs of the populations they serve. When it comes to the NASW this can provide a guide for social workers in navigating complex ethical dilemmas and staying aligned with professional standards during change initiatives. As far as PubMed, provides access to a vast database of scholarly articles, including research on effective interventions, evidence-based practices, and outcomes in social work. This can inform your strategies and decision-making during the planning and implementation stages.” Change agents have to be very clear about the ways in which proposals might be experienced by decision makers as diminishing their prestige, power, or resources available to them, or otherwise negatively altering what in their view is a good thing.”(Netting et al., 2017).ReferenceNetting, F. Identify the areas included in a research report.
Most research reports include a “title, abstract, introduction and statement of the problem, description of the methods and results, discussion of the implications of the findings and a list of references (Monette, D. R.,et. al. (2014).”
Identify a study in a journal article that is well written and includes all areas of a research report.
An example of a study that includes all areas of a research report is “The impact of childhood trauma on children’s wellbeing and adult behavior.” It is in the European Journal of Trauma & Dissociation. The full article can be found here: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/…
Explain how being able to write a research report will help you contribute to social work knowledge.
Being able to write a research report will help contribute to social work knowledge because it helps to identify issues, provide solutions, and advance knowledge. All of this can be used then to advocate for change.References:Cheyenne Downey, A. C. (2022, February). The impact of childhood trauma on children’s wellbeing and adult behavior.
