This is for a nonverbal communication class. As nonverbal communication students, you are learning the importance of non-verbal communication competence and social intelligence. By observing every day people in real time interactions, both their verbal and nonverbal interactions, you are practicing to learn a valuable skill that will aid you in your personal and professional life.
O.A.R:
the “O” is for observation. This is the part of your journal entry where you describe what you observed as it relates to the interaction of two or more people engaged in communication/non-verbal communication. The “A” provides you with an opportunity to allocate specific non-verbal communication terminology and definitions to the specific behaviors you observed. The “R” or Reflection entry allows you to reflect and think about how your perception of the interaction can influence the meaning of the communication, or, you can write about your thoughts and/experience as an observer.
* In the observation section, include a detailed description of an event (communication interaction of one or more people). Field observation means you are observing the interaction live and in real time.
* In the analysis portion, include a detailed explanation of how the interaction you observed portrays the models of communication.
* In the analysis portion, include these 8 terms (context, decoding, feedback, message, noise, nonverbal communication, encoding, emojis) with their definition in your analytical interpretation of the interaction. Be sure to highlight each term and its corresponding definition. Include in-text citations wherever necessary.
* In the reflection portion, describe how your understanding and interpretation, as well as your participation as an onlooker, impacted you positively or negatively and/or how the interaction you observed was either helpful or not for nonverbal insight.
* Include an introductory paragraph
* Add a conclusion statement
