For Milestone #4, you will synthesize the summaries of the five articles you reviewed in Milestone #2 (I have attached milestone 2 in the documents below. This paper has to be different from that, but use it to help). Integrating and synthesizing information allows you to make arguments or claims about your health issue broadly, rather than focusing more narrowly on the results of each specific study. The goal of this milestone is to make connections among the articles. Your synthesis must include three distinct main ideas. Each main idea should capture one connection among the studies you are working with, like a common finding (e.g., two sets of authors indicate that topic avoidance is good for family satisfaction) or way of thinking (e.g., two sets of authors conclude that all family members are responsible for maintaining boundaries). The main ideas should be rooted in the findings and conclusions of your articles. Talking about differences in methodology is not sufficient for this assignment, so be sure to maintain a focus on connections among the findings of each study, rather than the methods. You must cite at least two sources in each section, and you must use all five sources at least once. You will write a 3-4 page paper (double-spaced, 12 pt Times New Roman font, 1-inch margins) containing the following: (a) an introduction, (b) three main points that describe your synthesis across the articles, and (c) a conclusion. Your paper should include APA citations when you refer to the articles and a reference page at the end of the paper. You should avoid quotations and write about the research in your own words. Your paper should be written in third person.A few other instructions/tips:Do not use first or second person. No quotations are allowed. You will be penalized if you quote the articles.Use in-text citations for any information that is from your articles. This means most of the sentences in your synthesis paragraphs will be cited. Each synthesis paragraph should begin with a topic sentence and end with a concluding sentence. These will help you to transition smoothly between main ideas.Your conclusion should not introduce new ideas, but it should be interesting and should not use any of the same sentences you used throughout the paper.Your introduction paragraph should end with a strong thesis statement that previews your three main ideas. See the sample intro paragraph you received in class for an example.EvaluationThis milestone is worth 50 points of your final research project grade. The content of your paper is worth 40 points (10 points for each point of synthesis, 5 points for the introduction, 5 points for the conclusion), writing quality is worth 5 points, and formatting/APA is worth 5 points.
