An organizational leader must assure strict adherence to their own ethical policy.   To demand specific behaviors from their followers, leaders must recognize the need of adhering to those same standards themselves.   During my childhood, I often encountered the saying “Obey my instructions, not my actions.”   Parents consistently instruct their children to follow instructions rather than imitate what they see.   Many organizational executives have this similar mindset.   They believe that their position as leaders exempts them from being held responsible.   According to Offermann (2004), maintaining open lines of communication may greatly help a leader stay connected and well-informed.   Leaders must ensure that they are not just leading from their office and should establish feedback programs to encourage followers to offer leaders with candid and transparent input.   Through receiving this candid and transparent criticism, the leader has a comprehensive understanding of the organization’s culture and may take measures to guarantee its alignment with the ethical code.
