An article which I found is from June 16, 2019 and it involves the spread of infection among several patients due to lack of sterilization of surgical equipment in Porter Adventist Hospital in Denver, Colorado. In this case there was about 60 patients who got post surgical infections over a breach in sterilization procedures. In the lawsuit, it was claimed that the hospital failed to clean the surgical equipment and this led to several hundreds of severe infections. The cases extended back to 2018, and there were “76 times contaminated surgical instruments and trays- tainted by blood, chunks of bone, cement, hair, and even a dead insect- were brought into operating room suites” (Seaman, 2019). There were people who had infections after a mastectomy, knee surgery, and spine surgery among others. These surgeries are already tough to heal from, but to add the chance that you may not heal appropriately because of inappropriate aseptic techniques that could have been easily prevented by just changing the surgical equipment for new ones and following each encounter with a patient
