Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) initiatives
Week 5 Discussion
DQ1 How do you feel about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) initiatives? Discuss ways a community nurse can help with the goals.
DQ2 Many resources are spent on recruiting foreign nurses. It is a fast-growing private sector business. If the United States and other industrial nations put their resources into fixing the problems that lead to this shortage of nurses, would the need to recruit foreign nurses decrease? Why or why not?

Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) initiatives
Introduction
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) are a set of 17 global priorities to be achieved by the year 2030. The 17 goals are intertwined and interrelated, which means that they aren’t just one thing but many things at once. These goals aim to improve economic growth, poverty reduction, environmental protection, health care access and more.
Implement sustainable production and consumption patterns
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
Sustainable development is the process of meeting people’s basic needs while also protecting the environment. The United Nations defines sustainable development as “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” In other words, it can be achieved by responsibly consuming resources and taking care of both yourself and others.

Promote sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all
-
Promote sustainable economic growth.
-
Promote employment and decent work for all.
-
Address the issue of unemployment.
-
Increase the number of jobs available to people in developing countries, including through education and training programs; create opportunities for young people by promoting entrepreneurship; encourage women’s participation in the workforce; ensure that all workers have access to social protection measures necessary for their well-being (such as health care); provide support services such as childcare facilities which enable mothers to stay at home with their children instead of having them leave early on Mondays through Fridays so they can go back home for work later during summer months when there may not be many openings at their place of employment due to vacation season coming up soon after graduation from school followed by winter holidays which include Christmas break followed by New Year’s Eve celebrations before returning back onto regular schedules again once classes resume again next semester starting during January 2019 onward until May 2020 year end date depending upon what month occurs closest after October 2020 since there will not be any changes made regarding this particular schedule unless something happens between now until then because no one knows what might happen so far ahead yet!
Protect the environment and combat climate change
Protect the environment and combat climate change.
The SDGs are meant to address both the environment and climate change, which are important issues for people in developing countries. In order to protect the environment, we need to maintain clean air, water and land; reduce pollution; conserve biodiversity; improve energy efficiency; promote sustainable agriculture; reduce deforestation/forest degradation (REDD+); reduce CO2 emissions from fossil fuel combustion by at least 40% by 2030 compared with 2005 levels
End hunger and promote sustainable agriculture
Sustainable agriculture is the way to feed the world. It’s also a way to fight hunger and protect our environment.
Sustainable farming practices are important because they allow people in developing countries access to fresh food, which can help improve their health and well-being.
Enhance food security and nutrition
Food security is the state in which all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs. It includes both food availability and access to nutritionally balanced and culturally acceptable food.
In order to achieve SDG Goal 2: eradicate hunger by 2030 (a 10-fold increase from 1990), we must improve nutrition across all ages as well as develop new tools for measuring dietary diversity. We can do this by ensuring that everyone has access to healthcare services, quality education about healthy eating habits, agricultural inputs such as fertilizers or pesticides so farmers can produce more per acre; improving domestic markets for smallholder farmers who produce high-quality foods; providing support services like crop insurance when drought hits your area; making sure there’s enough space available within communities where children play outside instead of inside playing video games all day long!
Achieve gender equality and empower women and girls
Gender equality is a human right, it is not only a women’s issue. It is a key to ending poverty and achieving sustainable development. Women and girls are the most affected by climate change, so they need all of us to work together to achieve gender equality, which means that we must put an end to discrimination against people based on their gender identity or sexual orientation.
It’s time for everyone involved in the SDG process—from donors, governments and civil society organizations through corporations—to commit themselves fully towards achieving this goal by 2030!
Ensure access to water and sanitation for all
You may be wondering why access to water and sanitation is so important. The short answer is that these two essential services are critical for human health, well-being and economic productivity. Over 768 million people lack access to safe water every day, while 2.1 billion do not have adequate sanitation facilities.
In addition to being essential for human health and well-being, clean water also contributes significantly toward achieving other SDG goals such as poverty reduction (SDG 3), hunger reduction (SDG 4) or gender equality (SDG 5). By ensuring that everyone has access to safe drinking water on their premises or through community taps you can prevent diseases such as diarrhea which can make it difficult for children who don’t get enough nutrients from food alone due to malnutrition – especially if they’re also suffering from diarrhoea at the same time!
Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, modern energy for all
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) are a global initiative to end poverty, fight inequality and protect the planet. SDG 17 aims to ensure access to affordable, reliable and sustainable modern energy for all. This means that everyone will have the opportunity to:
-
Be free from fuel poverty by 2030. By that time, no one should live in extreme poverty due to lack of access to clean cooking fuel or electricity—a problem that affects some 2 billion people worldwide today alone.* Have at least 25% renewable electricity generation capacity by 2020.* Improve energy efficiency by 30%* Use renewable sources of water within their lifetimes

Conclusion
SDG are important because they help us to improve our lives and the world around us. By continuing to implement these goals, we can make a positive difference in the world.
