NRS 493 Topic 5 Professional Capstone and Practicum Reflective Journal
Students are required to submit weekly reflective narratives throughout the course that will culminate in a final, course-long reflective journal due in Topic 10. The narratives help students integrate leadership and inquiry into current practice.
This reflection journal also allows students to outline what they have discovered about their professional practice, personal strengths and weaknesses, and additional resources that could be introduced in a given situation to influence optimal outcomes. Each week students should also explain how they met a course competency or course objective(s).
In each week’s entry, students should reflect on the personal knowledge and skills gained throughout the course. Journal entries should address one or more of the areas stated below. In the Topic 10 graded submission, each of the areas below should be addressed as part of the summary submission.
- New practice approaches
- Interprofessional collaboration
- Health care delivery and clinical systems
- Ethical considerations in health care
- Practices of culturally sensitive care
- Ensuring the integrity of human dignity in the care of all patients
- Population health concerns
- The role of technology in improving health care outcomes
- Health policy
- Leadership and economic models
- Health disparities
While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

This is a reflection and analysis of the tasks completed during this capstone practicum experience. I learned many things through this project that will help me succeed in my future career.
Reflective Journal
The reflective journal is a tool that you can use to document your experiences and identify what went well, what could have been improved, and any new knowledge gained throughout the capstone process. Here are some things to consider:

Identify what went well during your capstone experience. Did you meet all of your expectations? Were there parts that fell short of those expectations? If so, how did they compare with other people’s experiences at similar institutions? What were the main factors behind these differences (e.g., resources available vs. time constraints)?

Identify what could have gone better or differently in order for things to go more smoothly next time around (if there is going to be another project). This can include thinking about things such as planning ahead for upcoming deadlines; finding additional sources of funding; developing relationships within the larger community/industry through networking events like conferences or professional development workshops; etcetera . . .
Task Analysis
Task Analysis is the process of breaking down tasks into their component parts. Task analysis helps to identify how much time a task takes, and how many resources are required to complete it. It also identifies potential risks associated with completing the task.
Task analysis can be used for any project or assignment, but it’s most commonly used for Capstone projects and Practicum assignments because they require students to break down larger tasks into smaller chunks that can be completed over several weeks or months.
Student Presentation
As you reflect on your capstone experience, think about how you would share this information with others. You can do this in a number of ways:

Give a summary of what you learned.

Share your thoughts on the project and its significance to other people, including why it was important to you personally.

Share your thoughts on the practicum experience, including any insights that were helpful or difficult for you (e.g., did it meet your expectations?).

Consider whether there are any themes or patterns that emerged during the coursework or practicum experience that could be useful when thinking about future projects at school or work settings like nonprofits where groups have to work together cooperatively under time constraints (i..e., students work with mentors).

The course was a great way to prepare for my career as an occupational therapist. I learned how to perform assessments with children, which will be helpful in my future work as an occupational therapist. I also learned more about how important it is to have good communication skills with clients as well as other staff members at your agency or clinic so that everyone can work together effectively (this includes patients too!).
