The US is the only developed nation without universal healthcare coverage and one of three countries that does not guarantee healthcare access for their citizens (the other two are Papua New Guinea and Cuba). In spite of our many problems with the current system, there is no denying its history or the innovation it has spawned over time.

Mass media have also played an important role in shaping the way we think about healthcare; advertisements for everything from toothpaste to cold medicine have helped shape our perception of what should be covered by insurance plans and why we should pay for it when we do so.

In recent years, however, many people have become disillusioned with their coverage options after finding out they don’t meet their needs or expectations—and this could lead them towards seeking out alternatives like private health care providers or even going without insurance altogether if they can afford it (which isn’t always possible).
