Factors that influence healthcare variables
Correlations – Nursing Bay
Correlations – Nursing Bay
This week, you explore key statistical concepts related to data and problem solving through the completion of the following exercises using SPSS and the information found in your Statistics and Data Analysis for Nursing Research textbook. The focus of this assignment will be on correlation coefficients, tools that can help to determine the strength of the relationship between variables. Because multiple factors influence healthcare variables, it is important for you to understand how to calculate and interpret correlation coefficients.
To prepare:
· Review the Statistics and Data Analysis for Nursing Research chapters that you read as a part of the Week 6 Learning Resources. As you do so, pay close attention to the examples presented—they provide information that will be useful for you to recall when completing the software exercises.
You may also wish to review the Research Methods for Evidence-Based Practice video resources.
· Refer to the Week 6 Correlations Exercises and follow the directions to calculate correlational statistics using Polit2SetB.sav data set (see attached file)
· Compare your data output against the tables presented in the Week 6 Correlations Exercises SPSS Output document (see attached file)
· Formulate an initial interpretation of the meaning or implication of your calculations.
You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.
Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.
Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.
The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument.

Factors that influence healthcare variables
Introduction
Healthcare is a complex issue. There are many variables that affect the way people live, including their access to health and medical services, quality of care, healthy behaviors and lifestyle choices. Environment also plays a role in many aspects of healthcare. This guide will help you understand how these factors influence one another so that you can make more informed decisions about your own health.
Access to health and medical services
Access to health and medical services depends on where you live, your socioeconomic status, your race, and gender. For example, if you live in a rural area with limited access to healthcare resources, then it is likely that you will have fewer resources available than someone who lives in an urban area with many hospitals and medical centers.
Access also depends on what type of insurance exists for those who need it most—individual or group coverage (e.g., Medicare). In addition to these factors influencing access at any given time period within one’s lifetime cycle (e.g., young adult), there are other factors that can influence how well people receive health care depending upon time period (e..g., older adult vs younger adult).
Quality of health and medical services
Quality of health and medical services is determined by the level of training and education of the healthcare staff. Quality can be defined as how well a particular medical treatment, procedure or diagnostic test works in relation to its expected results. The quality of care will depend on many factors including:
-
Level of access to technology (e.g., MRI machines)
-
Level of access to facilities and equipment – such as X-ray machines or ultrasound machines.
Healthy behaviors
As you can see, there are many factors that influence health. It’s important to be aware of the social environment around you and make sure that your lifestyle choices support good health.
-
Diet: A healthy diet consists of eating a variety of foods from all food groups, including vegetables, fruits and grains (e.g., pasta). Eating too much processed foods like cookies or chips is not recommended for people who want to live longer lives because these types of foods have been shown to increase blood pressure and cholesterol levels in people over 50 years old.* Exercise: Regular exercise can help reduce stress levels which may result in better overall well-being.* Stress Management: It’s important for seniors who are experiencing high levels of stress due to illness or other factors such as financial hardship so they may benefit from therapies such as meditation or yoga classes at local hospitals where they could receive assistance while learning how best practice these techniques on their own time schedules.”
Lifestyle choices
Lifestyle choices are the things you do in your daily life that influence how healthy or unwell you are. This can include eating habits, exercise, alcohol consumption, smoking and drugs.
There are many ways to improve lifestyle choices for better health:
-
Choose a healthier diet – It is important to eat less processed food and more fruits and vegetables as these have been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease by up to 30%. To help with this aim we offer a wide range of low-cost meal plans which give you access to fresh produce at an affordable price point while still maintaining a budget friendly weekly spend (usually around $20). These plans include both vegan/vegetarian options as well as non-vegan options so everyone can find something suitable for their dietary needs!
Environment
The environment can influence healthcare variables.
Environmental factors that can influence healthcare variables include:
-
The type of doctor who sees you (for example, a specialist or a general practitioner)
-
The time of day you visit the doctor (for example, morning or evening)
-
Your age and gender
Genetics and biology
Genetics and biology are the underlying factors that influence healthcare variables. Genetics refers to the combination of genes and environment, while biological systems are biological structures such as cells, organs or tissues. Epigenetics (also called heritability) refers to changes in gene expression that do not alter DNA sequence but can still be passed on from parent to child. Environment includes both physical factors such as temperature or nutrition levels as well as social factors like dieting or exercise habits which may affect health outcomes. Social determinants of health include education level, income level and access to medical care
Healthcare variables are influenced by more outside factors than it may seem.
Healthcare variables are influenced by more outside factors than it may seem. These outside factors can include access to health and medical services, quality of health and medical services, healthy behaviors, lifestyle choices and environmental factors.
Healthcare variables are also influenced by genetics and biology.
Conclusion
In the end, it is important to realize that healthcare variables are influenced by more outside factors than it may seem. It’s also important to note that there is no “one size fits all” solution for everyone, which means that your experience will vary depending on where you live and what other factors are present in your community.
