The Management of Quality, Safety, and Individual Performance
HCA 817 Module 3 The Management of Quality, Safety, and Individual Performance
Details:
Financial reimbursement is commonly being tied to quality of outcomes, making it important to measure and evaluate outcomes. Areas to be evaluated may include change initiatives, quality and safety scores, individual performance, patient perceptions, and staff perceptions among others. Rather than re-invent models for measuring quality, safety, and individual performance, health care leaders are wise to draw from models already proven in business and industry. Therefore, it is reasonable to explore these models to determine how they may be applied to health care organizations. In this assignment you will identify quality, safety, and individual performance management models and evaluate their applicability to health care organizations.

Introduction
Nurses are professionals who practice in a variety of settings, including hospitals, long-term care facilities, clinics and other health care settings. Their work is not only about the physical health of patients but also about providing emotional and spiritual comfort. Nurses are expected to manage many tasks related to patient care in addition to providing direct services. The management of quality, safety, and individual performance can be improved by maintaining clear channels of communication between nurses and patients/families; professionalism; honesty.
Professionalism and personal responsibility are essential to quality care.
Professionalism is the set of values and beliefs that guide behavior. Personal responsibility is the ability to take control of your own life, which includes making good choices for yourself in all situations.
It’s important for us as individuals to be able to work together as a team in order to achieve a common goal: delivering high-quality care to our patients every day. But sometimes it isn’t easy! We may feel like we’re not doing enough or that there aren’t enough resources available when things go wrong—or maybe even when they don’t go right! In these situations, professionalism can help us realize what needs fixing so that we can keep moving forward towards our goals with confidence
Quality and safety in the workplace can be improved by maintaining clear channels of communication, professionalism, and honesty.
The most effective way to improve quality, safety and individual performance is through clear channels of communication. This includes being honest with one another, respecting each person’s dignity in the workplace and maintaining professionalism at all times.
By working together as a team you can achieve great things!
A professional nurse is responsible for using the best knowledge and evidence to provide high-quality, safe care.
The professional nurse is responsible for using the best knowledge and evidence to provide high-quality, safe care. Nurses must be committed to this goal through their actions, words, and deeds.
In response to these challenges, nurses must develop new skills that will help them meet the needs of their patients. They must also learn how they can improve the quality of care they deliver while staying within legal boundaries set by other professionals involved in healthcare delivery (e.g., physicians).
Nursing requires a commitment from all staff members toward patient safety; an understanding of patient rights; an emphasis on teamwork; an emphasis on communication; an awareness of cultural differences among individuals providing services within any organization or institution; and finally a willingness to accept responsibility for one’s own actions or lack thereof when it comes time for management decisions about those who work under your direction as well as those who report directly back up through various reporting systems available depending upon which type(s) you choose upon joining an organization like ours here at HealthCareone Corporation.”
Professional standards of nursing practice will guide nurses in meeting their professional responsibilities.
For example, in California, the nursing practice standards are provided by the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS). These guidelines provide a framework for assessing and improving care outcomes. They also help ensure that you are providing quality patient care.
The standards define what constitutes safe practices on the part of nurses when performing their duties as licensed professionals; however, they do not address issues such as personal conduct or specific recommendations for improving individual performance.
Nursing regulation affects both individual nurses and groups of nurses.
-
The nurse is a member of the hospital staff, but she also has important roles outside the hospital.
-
The nurse’s duties are not limited to what occurs within the walls of her workplace. She must be concerned with how her actions affect other people in society.
-
As a part-time worker with little control over factors beyond herself (such as staffing levels), it is important that nurses understand their impact on others and take responsibility for those impacts.
Nurses should have an understanding of various areas that affect their performance to provide optimal patient care.
Nurses should have an understanding of various areas that affect their performance to provide optimal patient care.
-
The Nursing Profession: Nurses are responsible for providing safe, effective and quality care for patients in the nursing unit or within other healthcare settings. They must maintain professional boundaries by ensuring that they do not act inappropriately toward patients, colleagues or others outside the unit. Nurses also must be aware of their legal and regulatory environment (e.g., laws, regulations) so that they may comply with those requirements as required by law, policy or regulation; this includes knowing about any fines imposed on them by government agencies such as Medicare/Medicaid programs if there were violations discovered during an audit process which might lead back into having charges filed against them personally once again through criminal proceedings).
-
Healthcare System: A healthcare system is made up of multiple components including facilities run privately as well publically funded organizations such as universities who operate hospitals etc.. Each component has its own unique goals such as cost containment versus quality improvement measures while still meeting requirements set forth by governing bodies like state governments’ departments overseeing public health issues within certain regions (e..g., Texas’s Department Health Services). It’s important then even though we may work with some colleagues at different places–for instance one colleague may work primarily inside another building while another colleague works mainly outdoors–we need still keep track here where things go wrong over time.”
Conclusion
The above points are a good start for nurses to understand their role in the quality, safety and individual performance of patient care. Nurses have an important role in giving patients the best possible care. By understanding these issues within their own environment and those of other professionals involved with patient care, nurses can provide the highest level of quality care possible.
