SOC 320 Topic 1 Theoretical Frameworks
Create an essay of approximately 750 words in length that does the following:
- Briefly, and in your own words, describe each of the four theories discussed in Chapter 1 of the text.
- Think of an example (a situation or event that has to do with a marriage or a family) that has happened to you or someone you know fairly well and show how that situation or event could be explained and understood by one of these four theories.
The purpose of this assignment is to see if you understand the four theories well enough to explain them in your own words and apply at least one of them to a real-life situation or event. Be sure that your paper demonstrates this ability.

SOC 320 Topic 1 Marriage and Family Journal
Details:
For Topics 1-8, you will be provided with journal topics from the assigned readings. Reflect on those topics from your own personal experiences, but always be sure that your journal entry follows the instructions and covers the topics described.
These journal entries should not be in APA format. They are first-person accounts of experiences and your understanding of those experiences in light of the sociological concepts referred to in the instructions. The purpose of these journal reflections is to give you the opportunity to demonstrate that you understand the concepts and can apply them to your own life and situation. Thus, you should always name and define the concept, but the focus should be on your own personal experiences with or of that concept.

SOC 320 Topic 3 What is Love?
Details:
Much of what occurs in marriages and families is described as love or the absence of love. We sometimes say that we are “in love” or are falling in love with someone. Since the word love is also used to describe our feelings about things such as a certain kind of food (“I love chocolate ice cream.”) or objects such as a car or a movie (e.g., “I loved the movie we saw last night.”), people who study relationships have suggested that human love can take different forms or be one of several different types.
Consider the four different types of love outlined near the beginning of Chapter 6: storge, philia, eros, and agape. In an essay of 500-750 words, include the following:
- Describe the relationships of at least two different couples you know who exemplify different types of love. (For example, one couple may have an eros type of love for each other while the other may have an agape type of love.)
- Explain why you think each relationship you described is the type that you think it is. If you are married, have been married, or if you were to marry someone, do you, did you, or would you want your love for the other person to be of one or another of these types? Why?
Provide a minimum of three to five scholarly sources to support your analysis and conclusion.

SOC 320 Topic 5 Work, Families, and Children
Details:
Consider the following assertion: “In the traditional American nuclear family of today, once the couple has one or more children, the wife should not be employed outside the home. Rather, she should devote the majority of her time to child-rearing activities and “being there” for the children. This is the best environment for the development of healthy children in all senses of the word – physically, mentally, spiritually, and socially.”
Alternatively, one could assert something such as this: “In the contemporary American family, it often takes more than one income to provide for the family’s needs. Thus both parents may need or wish to work outside the home. There is little or no evidence to suggest that children who are cared for by qualified, attentive, and nurturing adults in a setting outside the home (e.g., a licensed daycare facility, a friend or a neighbor’s family home, an after-school program) grow up to be somehow disadvantaged or damaged emotionally, mentally, physically, or spiritually.”
Choose one of these two perspectives and write an essay of 750-1,000 words that summarizes the research evidence against that perspective. (Thus if you choose the first assertion above, you will look for evidence that this assertion is not accurate.) You may use the Marriage & Family: the Search for Intimacy text (Chapter 11) and the sources cited in the text, but you also need to use at least three scholarly sources to support your argument.

SOC 320 Topic 8 Benchmark – The Sociological Imagination
Details:
The sociological imagination is the ability to see one’s self and the aspects of one’s life in the context of the larger society.
In 1,000-1,250 words, use the sociological imagination by doing the following:
- Choose four aspects of your life associated with family situations or relationships such as, marriage, parenting style, divorce, family communication, both parents working outside the home, etc. View your personal situations in the context of the larger society. Categorize your personal family situations according to research and statistics on the family in American society as a whole.
- Explain how your personal situations fit in with trends in American society.
- Explain how viewing your personal situation from a societal point of view effects how you view your personal situation.
- Describe yourself or your family, provide a list of concepts. How do you see yourself in the type of family you are? How do you select a mate? How do you see yourself/family in the process or stages of married life?
Provide a minimum of three to five scholarly sources to support your analysis and conclusion.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

Love, Children, Marriage and Family
Introduction
Love, children, marriage and family are four topics that are very close to my heart. I have been married for almost 30 years and have four beautiful children. My wife and I have been through a lot together and our love for each other has only grown stronger over the years. We often hear about marriages that don’t make it and families that are broken. But I believe that with a little love and understanding, any marriage can be saved and any family can be healed. In this blog post, I will be sharing some of my thoughts on these four topics. I hope that by sharing my own experiences, I can help others who may be going through similar situations.
What is love?
Love is one of the most important emotions we experience as human beings. It is a deep feeling of affection and caring for someone, usually family or friends. Love is what makes us feel special and different from other animals.
When we are babies, our parents give us love and care. This helps us to feel safe and secure. As we grow older, we learn to love others in different ways. We may have crushes on people or fall in love with someone special.
Marriage is a type of love relationship that is recognized by law. In marriage, two people make a lifetime commitment to each other. They promise to be faithful and to care for each other in good times and bad.
Having children is another way of showing our love for others. When we have children, we want to give them the best possible life. We want them to be happy and healthy.
Family is the group of people who are related to each other by blood or marriage. Families can be small or large, but they all have one thing in common: they provide love and support during the good times and bad times.
Types of love
There are different types of love, and each type has its own unique set of characteristics. Here are some of the most common types of love:
-Agape: This is selfless, universal love. It’s the kind of love that doesn’t discriminate and is given freely without expecting anything in return.
-Eros: This is passionate, romantic love. It’s the kind of love that makes you weak in the knees and fills you with butterflies.
-Philia: This is deep friendship or brotherly/sisterly love. It’s the kind of love that is built on trust, respect, and shared values.
-Storge: This is familial love, or the kind of love you have for a close family member like a parent, child, or sibling.
Love and children
There is nothing in the world like the love between a parent and child. It is a bond that is unbreakable, a connection that cannot be denied. It is the type of love that knows no bounds and can conquer any obstacle.
Children are the greatest gift that we can receive in life. They are a blessing from above, a ray of hope in dark times. They bring joy to our hearts and happiness to our lives. They are everything we could ever want or need, and more.
Marriage is a sacred institution, one that should be cherished and respected. It is the cornerstone of family life, and the foundation upon which strong relationships are built. Marriage brings two people together in holy matrimony, and bind them together for life.
Family is one of the most important things in life. Without family, we would be lost. Family is there for us in good times and bad, they are our support system and our anchor in this world. They are the people we love unconditionally, and who love us unconditionally in return.
Love and marriage
Love and marriage are two of the most important things in life. They’re both essential to our happiness and well-being. And, they’re both worth fighting for.
We all know that love is important. It’s what makes us feel alive and happy. It’s what gives us hope and motivation. But, sometimes, we need to be reminded that marriage is just as important.
Marriage is the foundation of our families and society. It’s a sacred institution that should be protected. It’s the glue that holds us together when times are tough.
And, it’s worth fighting for. No matter how hard it gets, no matter how challenging it may be, marriage is worth it. Because, in the end, love always wins.
Love and family
Love is the most powerful emotion and it binds us together as family. It’s what we use to express our emotions towards one another and it’s the very foundation that our marriages and families are built on.
Children are a product of love and they bring so much joy into our lives. They’re a reminder of why we fell in love in the first place and they help keep our marriages strong.
Family is the most important thing in life. They’re the ones who will be there for you through thick and thin, no matter what. They’re your support system and your biggest fans.
No matter what challenges life throws our way, love, marriage, and family will always be worth fighting for.
Conclusion
Love, children, marriage and family are all important aspects of life that we should cherish. They bring us joy, happiness and a sense of belonging. Sometimes we take them for granted, but we should never forget how lucky we are to have them in our lives.
