Describe the rationale for the methods used in collecting outcome data
Assignment: HCA 699 Topic 6 Section F Evaluation
Assignment: HCA 699 Topic 6 Section F Evaluation
Details:
In 500-750 words (not including the title page and reference page) develop an evaluation plan to be included in your final evidence-based practice project. Provide the following criteria in the evaluation, making sure it is comprehensive and concise:
- Describe the rationale for the methods used in collecting the outcome data.
- Describe the ways in which the outcome measures evaluate the extent to which the project objectives are achieved.
- Describe how the outcomes will be measured and evaluated based on the evidence. Address validity, reliability, and applicability.
- Describe strategies to take if outcomes do not provide positive results.
- Describe implications for practice and future research.
This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.
You are required to submit this assignment to Turnitin. Please refer to the directions in the Student Success Center.
Upon receiving feedback from the instructor, refine Section F for your final submission.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION;
Introduction
Many of the projects in evidence-based practice (EBP) are focused on improving the patient experience. Other projects focus on reducing health care costs, improving quality of care and efficiency, or addressing equity concerns. Some projects also include all four aims, while others focus on a particular aim or aim combination. The rationale for collecting outcome data either in an EBP project or elsewhere can be found in these articles:
Effectiveness
The effectiveness of a treatment is determined by its ability to produce the desired result. In other words, if you want to treat a patient with a certain disease or condition, and your preferred treatment has been proven effective in clinical trials (and it’s available), then you should use that method as your first choice.
The second factor in evaluating the effectiveness of a method is whether or not side effects are minimal. If there are too many negative side effects associated with using this option or even just one major negative effect then it may not be worth continuing with this approach because those potential problems outweigh any potential benefits they provide. For example: If your doctor tells you that taking six medications daily can help manage chronic pain from an injury or surgery; but each pill costs $1 per dose and causes severe nausea when taken after eating lunch every day at noon sharp; then maybe trying something else would be better? However if taking these pills does actually help relieve pain without causing any serious adverse reactions whatsoever (like vomiting) then perhaps sticking with them would be worth considering instead?
Efficiency
-
Efficiency:
-
Cost of collecting data, compared to the cost of not collecting it.
-
Cost of collecting different types of data.
Equity
The goal of equity is to ensure that the benefits of evidence-based practices are available to all people. This could be achieved through a variety of methods, including:
-
Collecting data on a range of characteristics and circumstances (e.g., gender, age group)
-
Using multiple measures across different areas (e.g., quality improvement or outcomes measurement)
The four aims
The four aims of this project are:
-
Effectiveness, which is defined as “the degree to which a program or intervention produces its intended effects” (National Council for Evidence-based Policy, 2015). This means that we want our interventions to be effective and efficient in changing behavior, so that they can be used on an ongoing basis with minimal change from the initial study period.
-
Efficiency, which is defined as “the extent to which resources are used efficiently” (National Council for Evidence-based Policy, 2015). Efficiency refers to whether or not there will be minimal costs associated with implementing our interventions over time; if we don’t have enough funding available then this could mean that our services may become unavailable altogether!
-
, Equity: relates directly into both effectiveness and efficiency–equity refers specifically towards who has access or doesn’t have access based off socioeconomic status/disparities in society today…
Here are some articles about the rationale for collecting outcome data
When you think about it, there are four main aims of evidence-based practice:
-
The first aim is to improve patient outcomes. This means that your practice will experience fewer negative events and more positive ones.
-
The second aim is that your practice will get better at doing what it does best (or at least better than other practices). For example, imagine a doctor who has been practicing medicine for 20 years but hasn’t changed his or her approach to care in any significant way during this time period that person would likely not be considered an “evidence-based” practitioner because there’s no evidence that suggests otherwise! On the other hand, if this same doctor were able to implement new strategies after just one day of training from an expert on clinical guidelines for treating heart disease patients with high cholesterol levels then he/she might qualify as “evidence based.” In fact, we often refer to such individuals as “experts” because they have been trained specifically in how best apply specific methods from research studies into practice settings such as ours here at Blue Cross NC Medicaid Services and those same experts may use these same methods themselves when working inside their own organizations too!
Conclusion
We hope that this article has given you some insight into how to use the outcome data collected in an evidence-based practice project. The rationale behind collecting outcome data is important because it can help us understand what works best for our patients and how we can improve on these practices. With this understanding, we can continue to improve our patient’s healthcare experience or come up with new ideas to help people live longer, healthier lives!
