I BELIEVE KIDS IN LOW-INCOME NEIGHBORHOODS SHOULD BE EXPOSED TO MORE SPORTS OUTSIDE OF FOOTBALL. BASKETBALL. SOCCER AND BASEBALL..THEY SHOULD BE EXPOSED TO OTHER SPORTS LIKE WEALTHY KIDS

 In the context of sports, the statement “sports are reflections of society” is a common one. It implies that sports are not just games, but also a reflection of the values, beliefs, and attitudes of the society in which they are played 1. Sports can reveal a lot about a society’s culture, politics, economy, and social norms. For instance, the way sports are organized and governed can reflect the power dynamics and inequalities in a society 2. Similarly, the way athletes are treated and rewarded can reflect the values and priorities of a society 3. 

Choose a personally meaningful topic or aspect of sport that you would like to change/reform.

The project should include: (1) a description of the current state of the chosen topic/aspect (1 page); (2) why you feel it needs to be changed/reformed, citing relevant literature to support your argument (2 pages); and (3) the plan for implementing the change (2 pages).

Included in the plan should the goal or the reforms, and the steps necessary to get there (be creative yet practical!). Throughout the project, you should be mindful of sport in the context of American society and how the change will be intended to impact society. 

Grading: 100 total points; Description (20 pts); Rationale for reform (28 pts); Plan (40 pts); Writing format and technique (12 pts).
