OBJECTIVE
Being able to see your success in the future can be extremely motivating for many. Throughout your life, including but not limited to your career, you may come across a variety of situations where formal information delivery can occur. For example, situations such as boardrooms, investor meetings, interviews, as well as formal events such as weddings, funerals, or commencement ceremonies.
At Full Sail University, for example, we have our Hall of Fame event. This event honors graduates who have stood out in their industry for at least 10 years. Similar to the idea of Homecoming, Hall of Fame is a week-long event with Industry Professionals, Speeches, Panel Discussions, and concludes with a formal award ceremony acknowledging the year’s inductees for their impact on their industry.
Last week we focused on how to communicate to an informal audience, this week we will be focusing on how to communicate with a formal audience.
INSTRUCTIONS
The best way to begin any presentation is to understand your audience. Utilizing the principles of oral communication discussed throughout the month (Vocal Toolbox, H.A.I.L., Verbal and Non-Verbal Communication, Audience), create a formal presentation using the prompt below.

STEP 1
Now, it's time to plan your speech. With formal presentations, it is important to practice, practice, practice! After all, your audience is looking to you to provide a speech that is clear, engaging, and informative.
Creating a script allows you to formally identify your key points while having a structure for your speech; a beginning, a middle, and an end. You may have practiced creating a script in Week 3. As a requirement for this week’s assignment, remember that you are developing your ideas and flow of presentation through your typed script so attention to the time requirement and content is important.
Your typed script and presentation should thoroughly include:
- Introduce yourself and state why you were selected to introduce this inductee.
- Tell the audience who you are introducing and why the person is being inducted into the HOF.
- Point out the contributions and achievements in a meaningful way for the Full Sail audience.
- What is the audience's takeaway?
Now that you have created your script, let’s move to step 2 of the assignment.
STEP 2
Using your typed script, it’s now time to create your audio/visual presentation.
The delivery must be a 2 to 3 minute narrated presentation, utilizing audio and four (4) supporting images. Note: You want to ensure that the images are high-resolution, do not have watermarks, and are royalty-free.
To compose your assignment, you can use any production tool that allows for both visual elements and a recorded oral presentation (PowerPoint).
As a reminder from Week 3, below are a few tips to help you create this presentation:
- Use examples, skills, and processes developed through this month from your assignments, discussions, readings, activities, and Zoom sessions.
- Make sure your presentation contains 2 to 3 minutes of audio and visual content, that is fresh, effective, and focused on inspiring the Full Sail Community and introducing the Hall of Fame Inductee. Your concepts and ideas should be clear and choose visuals that will enhance your message.
