Reply to at least two classmate’s posts, applying the RISE Model for Meaningful Feedback
I will also show an example below of how the response needs to be addressed.
Here's an example of how the response should look. Please don't copy it.
The response to the classmate need to be just like this.
Example Response (Response Needs to be writen just like the response below No copying)
RISE Feedback:
REFLECT: I concur with "Action plans should reflect the type of services that are needed and have an idea of the expected outcome of the services" because it is in line with Hatch and Hartline's intentional school counseling guidelines in regards to determining students needs.
INQUIRE: Can you further explain what "closing-the-gap action plans" are?
SUGGEST: I encourage you to revisit Hatch and Hartline's MTMDSS tier interventions in order to add a citation that would illustrate your example on bullying prevention efforts.
ELEVATE: What if you re-purposed "For example, after a needs assessment, the school is having problems with bullying" as "Following Trish Hatch's MTMDSS tier based interventions, if the school is having problems with bullying, after a needs assessment, we could… citation…" for a more weighted argument?

It is important that school counselors develop a culture within the school environment that provides education and promotes awareness on LGBTQ+ related issues and most importantly encourages a school environment that is safe and affirming.(ASCA, 2022). There are many issues our LGBTQ+ students face which include bullying, discrimination, harassment, violence, and tragically, suicide. It is unfortunate but two districts in California are trying to create policies that violate students' privacy in regards to their personal identities. It is heartbreaking to think that school districts would consider such a terrible way of addressing student privacy.
My school site is quite accepting and affirming of our students and teachers who are a part of the LGBTQ+ community through true acceptance, support groups, workshops, and our fine arts program. However, the biggest challenge our students deal with is acceptance from their families and the community. Many of the students do not feel they could be their true self with their parents and therefore face many emotional and psychological issues.
To support our LGBTQ+ students more, we can support them by making their school a safe and affirming environment. Our dance program which became a school elective about 10 years ago has provided an especially welcoming space for students to develop their true identities and express themselves freely. Many of the current teachers are former students of the program. It is essential to address any and all issue that arise against any of our LGBTQ+ students so that other students understand that behavior will not be tolerated. When students know they have a safe place and people to support and love them no matter what, it makes it easier to face the challenges within their families and their surrounding communities.

One LGBTQ+ issue in education is students often report feeling unsafe in school due to their sexual orientation, gender identity/expression and experience bullying (ASCA, 2022). As school counselors, we know that these issues can affect the student development and well-being of the student, so we need to advocate to protect the LGBTQ+ youth (ASCA, 2022). To support LGBTQ+ students from bullying, we need to have a positive cultural environment. We can organize workshops or professional developments for staff and students to raise awareness about LGBTQ+ topics and provide methods of intervention to de-escalate harmful situations (Dewitt, 2012). In addition, we have to encourage staff to be supportive teachers. They can use a safe space sticker so students can identify those supportive teachers (Dewitt, 2012). Having a safe space for LGBTQ+ students is also important. Therefore, establishing groups like GSAs can help LGBTQ+ students to have a safe space and promote acceptance. It is also essential that we advocate for inclusive curriculum and materials that reflect all students to promote an accepting environment. As a school counselor, we can offer individual counseling support where LGTBQ+ students can talk about their concerns, address different issues, like the bullying. Having regular check ins can help to assess and figure out if the interventions are effective. If needed, giving referrals to students for outside sources to help their unique challenges will be helpful. It is also crucial to advocate for policy changes, such as non-discrimination policies, in order to reduce bullying and improve school climate (ASCA, 2022). Lastly, having prevention programs, such as anti-bullying programs, then we can address LGBTQ+ issues and promote acceptance and understanding.
