In the first few weeks of class, we have talked about how culture impacts our understanding of sex and sexuality. Write a 3-5 page paper exploring how your culture/s have influenced your access to sex education and impacted your understanding of sex, gender, sexual behaviors, attraction, and/or orientation.
Think of this paper being split into three parts; your paper should include:
An overview of what culture/s you belong to (these may be ethnic, racial, religious, school, or other family, local, and community cultures): tell me what they are and how they view and teach about sex.
Sex can include not only “The Talk,” including what is sex, safety, age of first sex, types of sexual behaviors that men and/or women do or don’t do, etc., but also gender and sexual orientation.
Some things to consider are messages from immediate family versus extended family; any school-based sex education you did or did not receive; as well as what have you learned from peer groups, social media, tv, film, music, etc.
Remember that messages can be spoken as well as unspoken.
Please note that this assignment is not intended to be an autobiography, but rather a reflection on how your cultures view sex and sexuality.

How have these choices about sex and sexuality shaped the way you live your life?
